Actuals shown are respective mean scores for concepts on exam or case questions. Given the difficulty of these concepts for students with little or no prior exposure to cost accounting, more time was allocated to discussion of theory and homework assignments. Students demonstrated a good understanding of both job order costing and cost allocation. Current pedagogy of lecture and homework assignments will be continued. Service costing and activity-based costing were assessed via exam questions. On average, students met benchmark. For additional emphasis, the instructor illustrated activity-based concepts using Lego toys. The pedagogical change from abstract to concrete was well-received. Job order costing was assessed on an exam and cost allocation was assessed as part of a case. Actual mean score was 90% for each concept.
