ST LUKE S CATHOLIC PARISH SCHOOL 45 Degen Road, Capalaba Ph (07) 3245 9595 Fax (07) 3823 2222 Email: pcapalaba@bne.catholic.edu.au Website: www.stlukescapalaba.qld.edu.au NEWSLETTER 2 February 2016 T1 Wk 2 FROM OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM Beginning of the New School Year I would like to congratulate the students of St Luke s and the entire community on the wonderful start to the new school year. The first few days of the school year were calm with everyone settling in without fuss. Starting the year on such a positive note will lead to a great year at St Luke s. We continue to promote our school rules of Respect, Responsibility and Right Relationships with high expectations from all. This year s theme for 2016 Dream Act Grow also encompasses high expectations for all. Dream: Dream big, have high expectations for learning and behaviour, don t give up on your dreams. Act: Act justly; make a difference in the world; pay it forward; Grow: Grow together; continual growth = achievement, success; Parent Partnerships Teachers have started meeting with parents this week before and after school. The purpose of these meetings is to meet your child s teacher and begin to develop a positive relationship to benefit your child and their learning. Effective partnerships are based on mutual trust and respect. Together as educators, school staff, parents and family members we share responsibility for each child at St Luke s. We look forward to continuing collaborative relationships over the year. Please contact your child s classroom teacher to make an appointment. School Uniforms Recently there has been some confusion regarding the use of uniforms with the old St Luke s logo. The new logo was introduced in 2011, however there was no time frame given for the gradual phasing out of the old logo. As parents have recently purchased uniforms with the old logo we will begin the phase out period this year and next. Uniforms with the old logo will no longer be sold through the uniform shop so as to not complicate matters. In 2018 all uniforms will have the current (new) school logo. Tuckshop Helpers needed please! Please contact the school if you are available to help in the tuckshop on the following days: Thursdays: 8:30am 10:45am. Fridays: 1:30pm 2:00pm. John Cameron, Principal (Acting) & Lagi Aukusitino, APRE FROM OUR PARISH PRIEST WELCOME BACK MASSES, 2016 Since our schools formally resumed last Wednesday, lots of vitality and vibrancy has returned to our parish community. The undue calmness which dominates the premises of St Anthony s, Alexandra Hills and St Luke s, Capalaba during school holidays can hardly withstand the energetic presence of our students. We believe that our students surely had a nice holiday and enjoyed some quality family time with other members of their family. We can tell this by the smiles which have refused to leave their faces. It is therefore quite pleasing that as a parish, we formally welcome them back to our parish community in a grand style. Next weekend, we will celebrating our annual School Welcome Back Masses for the staff and students of our schools. Beginning with St Luke s Primary School, Capalaba at the 6.00pm mass on Saturday, 6 th of February. St Anthony s Primary School Alexandra Hills will be held during the 9.00am mass on Sunday, 7 th of February. The Welcome Back Masses as usual will provide an opportunity for the staff, parents and students of both schools to meet and interact with our parishioners and with each other. At the end of the mass, we will all have the opportunity to share a BBQ together. We therefore encourage our parishioners to keep on praying for the success of our schools as well as their staff and students throughout this school year. We also welcome new staff who have just joined our schools this year as well as the new students and their families. Feel free to come and worship with us during our weekend masses. Finally, we guarantee the support of our parish to our schools throughout the year and beyond. God Bless, Fr Emmanuel 2016 Sacramental Program Commencing in 2016, there are changes to the timings of Sacraments for children in the Brisbane Archdiocese. There will be an information session which will explain the changes to parents. Every sacrament that will be celebrated for children in our Parish for 2016 will be covered at this session on Wednesday 9th March 2016 at 7pm at St Anthony s Church. Enrolment forms for all sacraments will be available on this night. We Need Your Help!!! The Parish needs your help! We need leaders/helpers for Children s Liturgy at both Churches. We aim to provide this service at 6pm Mass on Saturday night at St Luke s and 9am Mass at St Anthony s Church on a weekly basis IF we get enough volunteers. The role involves sharing the Gospel with children of 4years+ for approximately 20 minutes, during the Saturday/Sunday Masses and all material needed is supplied. If you would like to participate in this important ministry at your chosen Church, please place your name and phone number of the sheets at the back of the Church. You will also be invited to come to a meeting on Saturday 6 th February where all questions will be answered and you can nominate your availability for the roster. Thanking you in anticipation.
