Term 1 Unit: Brazil Unit: Antarctica Unit:The Unequal World (will run Project Project 2-3 weeks into Term 2) Title: Design and build Plan an expedition to the South Project The Unequal World your own ecosystem Diorama and a write a page explaining the Climate, vegetation and soil as well as the adaptations of animals in your chosen ecosystem. Using a show box or something similar, design, create and finish a diorama that shows ALL the key features of an ecosystem of your choice. Pole to commemorate the centenary of the death of Captain Scott and his team. Task: Design a plaque to commemorate the illfated 1912-14 polar expedition of Captain Scott and his team. You will then need to plan the expedition that will transport the plaque and place it at the South Pole. Research Captain Scott s expedition to the South Pole. Design a 20x30cm plaque to commemorate all of the explorers who perished during the Design and market a range of Fairtrade products. Students will explore world trade and widen their understanding of what fairtrade is by developing and marketing a range of Fairtrade products. Investigate and define world trade. Summarise the fairness of world trade. Explore and research fairtrade pictures. expedition. Develop their own range of fairtrade

Decide on which ecosystem you will study Write a half page of A4 describing why you have chosen that ecosystem. Create a fact file of the climate, vegetation, scenery, animals and soil in your chosen ecosystem Research existing plants and animals of your chosen ecosystem. Week 5 Plan your expedition accounting for how you will travel from London stage by stage to the South Pole. How many forms of transport will you use? Week 6 Design the clothing and equipment that you will use on the Antarctic leg of your expedition. Use the most up to date clothing and explain why you choose each garment. Week 7 Use a map of Antarctica to plan your route from Scott s base camp at Mount Erebus to the South Pole (And back again) pictures. Week 5 Design marketing / promotion of their products. Week 6 Produce a display of products and marketing materials.

Term 3 Unit Egypt Unit: Geographical enquiry- Pollution Unit: Tourism Project: To produce a tourism advert. : Research why people visit Egypt : Choose which places you would most want to include in your tourism advert : Research important facts and information about key areas in Egypt of your top 8 things to do -6 To produce an informative PowerPoint that is persuasive and will encourage people to visit your top places of interest in Egypt Week 7 To complete a speech/ presentation to go with your Project: To create a booklet about pollution in the UK and globally Research different types of pollution in the UK and the world Find out the causes of the different types of pollution- statistics/ direct effects Find out all the effects of the pollution and how it affects the environment and also people Find out the solutions to the problems of pollution. Term 4 Unit: USA Unit: Cross curricular- West Africa Unit: Coasts Project: Explore one of America s states and create a leaflet to inform other students about it. Research some of the states in the USA that you are interested in and decide on your chosen state. Start collecting information, images that will be used in your leaflet Carry on collecting further information -6 Create your leaflet about a chosen state: You must include: Map showing location, description of the environment, climate. Any important physical and human geography of the area. Project: Finding out about where your Chocolate comes from Research the countries that are found in West Africa and write an introduction about your chosen country History of your chosen country referencing colonialism and the slave trade and how it has shaped the country today Cocoa farms in your country, how much they produce, how much do they export and earn. What are the conditions like of a cocoa farmer Create a cartoon strip showing the process from growing to exporting the cocoa Week 5-7 A piece of extended writing 2 sides of A4 to accompany your cartoon strip that explains your chosen country, the history Project: To investigate management strategies along the coast Create an information board to present to the local authority about ways to help protect Eastbourne coast against erosion Find out about the different types of erosion that operate along the coast and the type of rock found along this coastline Find out different hard and soft engineering strategies and the advantages and disadvantages. Find out what protection is currently being done along Eastbourne Find out what the value of the land is like Week 5-7 Create an information board that details all of your findings.
