Introduction to Sakai Sakai represents a fundamentally different approach to the learning management system. Unlike other open systems available today, the direction and feature set of Sakai originates within higher education to address the dynamic needs of a global academic community. The Sakai open-source community highly values the participation of its contributors, with educators and developers from various institutions working together to turn great ideas into reality for the entire community of Sakai adopters. The built-in collaboration tools available in Sakai support the needs of academia and a number of different teaching and learning models. These range from traditional courses with online components such as resource management and forum-based discussion to more advanced online approaches such as flipped classrooms and fully-online teaching. Sakai also includes intuitive project work sites, which allow organizations and project teams to coordinate project administration, share resources, schedule activities, develop collaborative work products and track progress towards completion. These projects provide collaboration capability which are widely used by student groups, faculty committees, thesis committees, strategic planning teams, reaccreditation teams and others engaged in tasks related to important projects beyond the classroom. Sakai is at the top of learning management and its investment is appreciated in open standards like IMS Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI). By providing a simple, safe, and secure method for passing student information, grades, and more. LTI paves the way for a new era of interoperability between the learning management system and compatible third-party tools. As more and more applications adopt these standards, Sakai becomes even more capable, seamlessly integrating and unique. It act as powerful new functionality into the next generation of digital learning environments.
