Our year starts out quickly with three exciting get-togethers, all held at the Columbus Bar Association. Our first meeting on September 27 at 12:30 p.m. is entitled Community Service: the Intrinsic and Extrinsic Benefits with featured panelists President and CEO of the United Way of Central Ohio Janet Jackson, CEO and President of the Columbus, Ohio YWCA Elfi DiBella, Columbus School Board Member Shawna Gibbs, and Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Anne Taylor. On October 7 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., WLFC will be hosting its annual Candidates Night, which offers the opportunity to mingle with candidates for the contested judicial races. October 12 at 8:00 a.m. is the kick-off breakfast for the WLFC Dining Circle Initiative, which partners diverse groups of women attorneys, judges, and others connected to the legal profession for monthly, informal gatherings. We plan to use this year to continue to explore issues relating to all aspects of women in the legal profession. Membership in WLFC benefits you by providing access to our luncheons at a reduced rate and it benefits all of us by fostering a network of women attorneys that are interested in bettering ourselves and one another. I would be remiss if I did not mention the benefit to future women lawyers, as once again we provided a scholarship to a current law student at our annual meeting. This scholarship is funded by the proceeds from our silent auction, as well as donations from our members (and donations to the WLFC scholarship fund are of course accepted at any time). I hope you enjoy the activities we have planned for this year and that you will continue to find WLFC a useful tool to your practice as WE ARE OUR OWN BEST RESOURCE! Very truly yours, Julie B. Smith Megan M. Goeser Law School Liaison

Women Lawyers of Franklin County, Inc. LET S DINE! WLFC Dining Circle Initiative Kick-Off Breakfast 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2010 Location: CBA WLFC, in conjunction with the Columbus Bar Association, will again offer the Dining Circle Initiative. Dining Circle is a fun and easy way to network, mentor, and encourage each other! Dining circle groups meet monthly for breakfast, lunch, or happy hour in local venues. This year, in addition to the traditional Breakfast, Lunch, and Happy Hour Dining Circle options, WLFC added a Dining Circle Playgroup designed for those who practice part-time or are currently staying at home. To register for a Dining Circle, please go to http://www.wlfc.ws and select the link for the Dining Circle Initiative. Please send your completed form by regular mail, fax, or e-mail to Heather Melick by October 5, 2010, or bring your completed form with you to turn-in at the WLFC s first luncheon on September 27 th at the CBA. Heather Logan Melick Luper Neidenthal & Logan 1200 LeVeque Tower 50 W. WLFC Membership is only $50.00 annually. WLFC HELPS GIVE BACK TO COLUMBUS! In May, we helped host a happy hour at M with the ACS s Columbus Lawyer Chapter, the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Central Ohio, the John Mercer Langston Bar Association, and the Young Lawyers and LGBT Sections of the Columbus Bar Association. We collected a total of $258. $200 went to West Broad Street Elementary School and $58 to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. Thank you for your participation in another successful event. Cheers! WLFC and Habitat-for-Humanity As the new year for Women Lawyers of Franklin County gets under way with a presentation on the 27th on the benefits of engaging in Community Service, it is time to get involved and volunteer! This past Spring, WLFC Community Service Chair Florence Murray launched an initiative to get WLFC members donating their time and skills (actually, no skills needed Habitat will train you in home building skills. Can you say DIY?!). If you are interested in donating time and learning, please visit http://columbus.volunteerhub.com or contact WLFC Community Service Chair Florence Murray.
