Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Progress Report St. Basil Catholic School Progress Report Student Performance Review *The following graphs compare the student test scores of the Catholic schools of Vallejo to those of their neighboring public schools. Students in all Vallejo Catholic Schools are given STAR Math and STAR Reading Assessments from Renaissance Learning, whereas California public school students are required to take the Smarter Balanced exam under the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) system. The comparison of these separate tests is made possible by the application of psychometric equivalencies, which standardize the criteria used to evaluate and score these different academic assessments. The tables below display grade-level learning data based on both Renaissance STAR data and CAASPP data. HIGH SCHOOL PREP The comprehensive and competitive curriculum at St. Basil School prepares students for the rigors of high school, college and career. EXPONENTIAL POTENTIAL Understanding that children have unique learning styles, our dedicated faculty at St. Basil create a relevant and meaningful educational experience through differentiated instruction that inspires all children to be avid learners with big appetites for knowledge. (1) Based on 2016-2017 STAR Reading and STAR Math testing data for St. Basil School, St. Catherine of Siena School, and St. Vincent Ferrer School obtained from 2017 Renaissance Learning, Inc. All rights reserved. (2) Based on 2016 CAASPP Smarter Balanced test results of select public schools in Benicia Unified School District and Vallejo City Unified School District. Testing results are publicly available online via the California Department of Education: http://caaspp.cde.ca.gov/. 4 4

St. Basil School Financials Financial information for the 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years is presented above. Note the significant difference between the Cost to Educate per Student and the First Child Parishioner Tuition Rate. The disparity between these figures is striking for the 2017-18 school year where the deficit is estimated to be $X,XXX per student. When comparing the Estimated Deficit per Student to K-8 Enrollment for each period, the data depicts a high correlation between student enrollment, estimated deficit values per student and fundraising needs. These correlational relationships illustrate that strong enrollment numbers are necessary to mitigate the gaps between student tuition and education costs. 5 5

Closing Remarks The mission of St. Basil Catholic School is to provide students with the opportunities for academic excellence and the necessary foundation to become successful members of our society. We recognize that God is our Creator, and actively seek union with Him, respect for His Church and fulfillment of His gospel message. We believe in and respect the uniqueness of each individual and strive to guide our students to recognize their self-worth. One way that St. Basil defines success is in the ability to give back to a community. We strive to instill in each student a strong perception of self-worth and respect. They are taught at an early age that giving of themselves in service, whether through time, physical efforts, creative abilities, or emotional support, is a true expression of Gospel values.
