TENTATIVE ADVISEMENT SHEET 2015 BIOLOGY/NURSING (PRE-NURSING) ALL students must take the appropriate level pre-requisite classes. Freshmen coming in must take the Math, Reading, and English class they test into. If a student tests into remedial classes they must take those classes before moving forward in the major. UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI TRACK 96 credits (at FMU) At least 50 credits (at UM) Students will need a total of at least 146 credits to graduate with a BIOLOGY DEGREE from FMU under the DUAL DEGREE PROGRAM. If you come back without a nursing degree or change to a Biology major you MUST take the missing classes for graduation. Student MUST ALSO either graduate with a NURSING degree or provide an appropriate letter that shows they will be graduating that semester with a NURSING degree from University of Miami. FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TRACK 96 credits (at FMU) At least 50 credits (at FIU) Students will need a total of at least 146 credits to graduate with a BIOLOGY DEGREE from FMU under the DUAL DEGREE PROGRAM. Student MUST ALSO either graduate with a NURSING degree or provide an appropriate letter that shows they will be graduating that semester with a NURSING degree from Florida International University. If you come back without a nursing degree or change to a Biology major you MUST take the missing classes for graduation. REQUIRED GENERAL EDUCATIONS CORE (33 CREDITS) BIO/NURSING student must pass all classes with a C or higher to continue in the program. ORIENATION TO UNIVERSITY LIVE AND THE DISCIPLINES 3 CREDITS FMU 101 University 101 NSC 102 Critical Thinking in HNS COMMUNICATION SKILLS 6 CREDITS (COM AND ENG) COM 103 - Public Speaking (3) ENG 102 - College Writing II (3) or higher.

MATH ANALYTICAL SKILLS, COMPUTATION AND TECHNOLOGY 6 CREDITS *For science majors (Includes BIO/NURSING) it is the FIRST MATH CLASS NEEDED as a science major, Mat 111 or higher depending on what level math the student tested in and the science major. MAT 111 or higher (3) CSC101 (3) WORLD LANGUAGES 3 CREDITS 202 or higher SOCIETY AND GLOBAL INQUIRY 6 CREDITS (+6 UM) (+6 FIU) 100 level or higher (recommended for BIO/Nursing), 3 credits must come from Humanities/Visual arts 200 level or higher, 3 credits must come from Social/behavioral sciences, does not include African American History I or II. BIO/NURSING students must take PSY 200 (3), PSY306 (3) and HIS 200 (3). Depending on what track (FIU or UM) there will be extra classes from this area that will be required from the participating Nursing School (must see BIO/NURSING advisor for choices). For example, UM students should take either a sociology, political science, anthropology, economics, or Geography class (EXTRA SOC & GLOB ELECTIVE, 200 level or higher) as well as the required classes from above. Students planning on FIU (require one more in this area, either MUS200, ART200, or an approved Humanities course (see advisor)). Possible Choices - ARH101 or 104, MUS 200, 209, 210, 221, THE 181 and 182, DAN 181 and 182, DAN 200, COM 205, 210, 294, ENG Literature classes (ENG201, 202, 212,295, & 297, CRJ 200, PHI 200, PSY 200 or higher, POL 200, GEO 302, 303, or 304, ENV 304, ECO 201 or 202, HIS 101 or 102, or HIS 200 or higher. RELIGION AND PHILISOPHICAL INQUIRY 3 CREDITS REL101 or higher depending on science major BIO/NURSING students are free to take REL101 or higher. BIO/NURSING students are required to take an ETHICS class before transfer and may have to take it off campus. We have PHI331 Contemporary Ethics. It is not required for

graduation at FMU but it is required by the Nursing programs and students must have proof (transcript) of taking the class before they can graduate from FMU. AFRICAN DIASPORA AND THE WORLD 3 CREDITS HIS 103 or 104, 200 or higher Social Sciences, cannot use a class that was used for Society and Global Inquiry, see advisor 200 or higher Visual and Performing art, cannot use a class that was used for Society and Global Inquiry BIO/NURSING students must take either HIS 103 or HIS 104 (African American History I or II. SCIENTIFICA INQUIRY 3 CREDITS FOR SCIENCE MAJORS IT IS THE FIRST OFFICIAL SCIENCE CLASS TAKEN (EXAMPLE BIOLOGY 130 PRINCIPLES OF BIOLOGY FOR BIOLOGY MAJORS) OTHER REQUIRED CLASSES 1. All BIOLOGY/NURSING students must take a NUTRITION class off campus; FMU currently does not offer one that is equivalent to what is needed for nursing. This credit is for FIU and UM only. Check with BIO/NURSING advisor. Students must show proof of taking this class (transcript) in order to graduate from FMU. MAJOR REQUIREMENTS (BREAKDOWN) FOR BIOLOGY/NURSING COGNATES (32 CREDITS) 1) MATH - 6 CREDITS 2) CHEMISTRY - 18 CREDITS 3) PHYSICS - 8 CREDITS BIOLOGY REQUIREMENTS (25 CREDITS) ANY CLASS marked with an * is a prerequisite science class for nursing and cannot be repeated or the student is automatically out of the program. Students cannot repeat any science classes, however if it is a class outside of the prerequisite classes for nursing please see Dr. Sherman to discuss options and issues. BIO/NURSING STUDENTS DO NOT DO A CAPSTONE CLASS. 8 FROM BIO 100 LEVEL-All of these courses have a MAT 111 or higher pre-requisite must be completed and passed with a C or higher, see advisor for exceptions.

If student tests into a higher class than MAT 111, students can start a science class with that higher level math.
