Programme Outline Citizens who acquire new knowledge, skills and attitudes in a wide range of contexts are better equipped to adapt to changes in their environments. If we want to achieve these sustainable societies with empowered citizens we need to do more than simply exist we need to thrive! Thrive 2018 will explore the emerging and future competencies required of all citizens to thrive in a complex and constantly changing global society. It will focus on the emergence of learning ecologies, placing learning at the centre of educational and social transformation. The programme overview below provides an insight into how we will use our time over the two days. It includes Keynotes to lift horizons and create a future-focused trajectory for our thinking, Catalyst sessions to inspire and ignite a call to action, and workshop sessions in which we can collectively imagine and design learning-inspired approaches for our own communities and contexts. The event is being held simultaneously in two locations, Gisborne and Dunedin. This provides an opportunity to demonstrate new ways of connecting and building knowledge around how we can create new learning ecologies locally, nationally and globally. Throughout our two days together we aim to provide a learning experience that will focus on analysis and synthesis, identifying areas of convergence and divergence, surfacing insights, drawing out reflections, making connections and, where possible and desirable, building consensus. Thrive optional pre-event programme: Wednesday 15 August 10.00am - 4.00pm Full-day field trip Wednesday 15 2.00pm - 5.00pm Afternoon field trip Participants attending a pre-event field trip will witness world-leading innovations developed from home-grown, culturally located solutions. Highlights will include private tours of industryleading businesses, exploring groundbreaking technological applications and innovative educational enterprises. We encourage all Thrive participants to take advantage of the optional pre-event programme involving visits to local sites of interest to learn more about the innovations that are occurring in the Gisborne region in relation to the themes of Thrive 2018. 5.30pm - 6.30pm Official Thrive welcome reception and introductory session (Gisborne and Dunedin)
