International Undergraduate Move-In ISSS partnered with the Office of Housing and Residential Education to schedule special move-in days for new undergraduate international students to provide a more welcoming experience and help ease the stress of travel and arrival in the US. ISSS staff and International Orientation Leaders were available until midnight to assist arriving students with ID cards and room keys and to escort them to their rooms. Linen packages were available for purchase to ensure students had pillows and blankets for their first night in the United States. Linen packages were available to all incoming students. 93 students moved in 24 linen packages purchased 95% of participating students were satisfied with their experience Check-in Sessions ISSS Staff met with students in small groups to check them in and review a welcome folder with information to help them prepare for their studies and life in Nashville. Between July and August, 106 check-in sessions were held. 95% found the welcome bag helpful 92% agreed that the ISSS advisers made them feel welcome 94% felt comfortable asking the ISSS adviser questions during check-in ISSS staff were really good at making contact before I arrived, answering questions that I had, and were really helpful at check-in. International Orientation Leaders 42 International and U.S. students served as International Orientation Leaders (IOL s) for 21 groups of incoming students during International Student Orientation. IOL s worked in partners to lead their groups and provide guidance to students throughout their transition to life at Vanderbilt. IOL s communicated with students prior to their arrival, assisted during move-in and heavy check-in periods, led discussions during orientation, and assisted at other events. IOL s were also available for peer advising from 10AM-4PM during the two weeks prior to orientation to answer questions and assist students with resources. 92% of students enjoyed eating lunch with their IOLs and orientation group 80% of students agree that being in an orientation group was helpful in their transition to the U.S. and Vanderbilt 69% of students agree that IOLs were a resource as they prepared for arrival to Vanderbilt The IOLs provided a welcoming environment for newcomers. 100% of IOLs agree that lunch was helpful in getting to know other group members 96% of IOLs felt that their group members at orientation were engaged during small group discussions 7

100% of IOLs felt prepared for their role after training 95% of IOLs agree that having a partner IOL was helpful 95% of IOLs reported a favorable working experience with their partner IOL I am so thrilled that I seized the opportunity to be an IOL. It was great to give back to the other international students, and it built my confidence and leadership skills. 8
