E.g In the sentence, Iron rod became bigger when heated and became smaller when cooled, the correct terms to be used should be expanded and contracted respectively. o Make sure they read the questions carefully and follow the given instructions. Highlight key words in the question and use the process of elimination when selecting the best option for the multiple choice answer. o Use Mind Maps / concept maps to link facts and concepts. This helps your child to remember and understand things taught in class. o Help your child sharpen their thinking process skills by advising your child to take their class and practical activities seriously and ask questions in class. o You may encourage your child to try to do some simple experiments at home.
Mathematics:. Help your child understand and see the importance and relevance of Mathematics in everyday life. e.g. using the Singapore Power bill to show the amount utilised and the amount to be paid.. Help your child understand the problem sums by engaging them in the problems through: a) asking them to tell you what the problem is about b) letting them explain how they are going to solve it. c) asking questions to help them understand the question. d) getting them to draw diagrams/models to help them visualise as you ask them the questions. 3. Ensure your child show all workings neatly as marks are awarded for correct workings. 4. Make sure that they know -- the formulas -- the multiplication and division tables -- how to convert units of measurement e.g. min = 60s 5. Make sure that your child has daily practice in Mathematics to reinforce the concepts learnt by: -- completing all homework properly, e.g. Koobits Daily Challenges -- revising previously taught topics on a regular basis. -- covering the solutions that they have done before and re-work the sums daily -- practising papers under examination conditions. 6. The more they practice, the better they become. 7.
