A Message from the Head Teacher October 2016 Dear Applicant, I would like to thank you for showing an interest in the post of Teacher of Computing and ICT, which is part of our Technology & Enterprise Faculty and if you decide to apply then you are taking the first steps in becoming a valuable member of my staff at High Tunstall College of Science at an exciting time in the College s history. I have been Head Teacher of the College for over 6 years and now firmly seeing the inclusive, student centred and achievement for all culture paying dividends. In June 2016 we had our last OFSTED inspection when we were rated as a GOOD School in all areas. The summer 2016 GCSE results saw for the fourth successive year improved outcomes for our students and this was due to the hard work and dedication of all our staff and students and by working in partnership with parents to support all the young people. Young people only have one chance in life to have an Inspirational educational experience and I want to ensure that High Tunstall College of Science provides this for them. As Head Teacher I have three key principles in education, and these are as true for staff as they are for students. They are honesty, respect and equal opportunity. As a member of my team you will be treated with respect and given the opportunity to excel in your career and achieve your own personal goals during your time at the College. In return I expect all my staff to treat students with respect and give them a fighting chance in life by giving them all equality of opportunity by making sure all barriers to their learning are removed wherever possible. In addition to the mainstream education provision at High Tunstall College of Science we have an additional resource provision for 20 students who have medical and physical difficulties as well as students who have autism. On site we also have an extensive provision for these students, individual support, hydrotherapy pool and personalised timetables to name a few. All our students that have an additional placement are a full member of the High Tunstall community and have a timetable that engages them in all or some of the mainstream timetable. We pride ourselves in meeting the needs of all. High Tunstall College of Science is a great place to work. Fantastic young people and colleagues who support each other are the key features of the College. We have developed our relationships with our parents/carers and the local community and believe that these relationships continue to blossom. A Message from the Faculty Leader Dear Applicant, I am delighted to work at High Tunstall as Head of the Technology and Enterprise Faculty because I see this as an excellent opportunity to support a school and faculty to meet their outstanding potential. I am looking forward to new challenges and opportunities to move the faculty forward by developing the curriculum, improving teaching and learning and increasing students progression. It is such an exciting time of change it is an excellent point for you to join us. My vision for the faculty is to ensure it is modern and in keeping with the 21 st century, I want staff to support me in my vision. All members of the faculty should understand the current and future impact of the technology and enterprise curriculum and ensure we are preparing our students for this. Technology and Enterprise in the 21 st century is of rapid change, what we are teaching students at the start of the year could be outdated by the end of the year; the jobs we are preparing our students for may not exist yet so we as teachers must update our teaching in line with the innovative world around us. The faculty is closely linked to employment and is vocational in its nature. To prepare students for industry, domestic lives and the digital world, technology has to be contemporary and allow students to learn new skills, take part in unique opportunities and work with local businesses, staff in the faculty must support this. As a faculty we are making curriculum changes at key stage 3 to emphasise the enterprising and STEM nature of the faculty. To support GCSE results we will teach skills based lessons to all students in the faculty from year 7 so they are fully prepared for their options. A focus will also be on ensuring consistency across all departments so all students get the same quality of learning in all lessons. Good teamwork and communication across all members of the faculty will drive this. I want the faculty to be outstanding; students must be excited by what we have on offer and anyone joining the faculty must share their passion for teaching and their subject with students. Great team work, enthusiasm, forward thinking, passion and ability to reflect are key qualities anyone joining us will need. I look forward to you joining us on our journey. General College Information High Tunstall College of Science is a school that serves the community of North West Hartlepool and its surrounding villages. This support, alongside quality teaching is helping us to close the gaps that are such an issue nationwide. Achievement at HTCS is improving. Our most recent results and OFSTED rating show that we are moving forward, at pace. 60.5% - 5+A*-C grades including English and Maths 65% - 5+A*-C grades 65% - Basics (A*-C grades in English and Maths) 73% - 3+ levels of progress in English 67% - 3+ levels of progress in Maths 22% - Achieved EBACC 76% - At least 2 GCSE A*-C grades in Science

These statistics only tell part of the story of achievement at HTCS in recent times, for example we have been hugely successful in helping vulnerable students into appropriate education and training post 16, which helps to explain why our percentage of NEETs is so low. Furthermore, our long tradition of sporting achievement and public speaking adds a further dimension to what it means to be successful at HTCS. The High Tunstall community is based upon the principle that as a group of individuals we inspire each other and support each other, so that we all achieve. This principle underpins daily routines and practice, which has led to a community that is mutually respectful, offering an equal balance of support and challenge that leads to success for all.
