RJH Newsletter December 2017 Volume 4 Happy Holidays! Can you believe we are half way through the school year? Time is flying by. Rolla Junior High School students are busy in the classroom at all times. Since the last newsletter the students participated in a food drive, several students attended the Expanding Your Horizons activities at Missouri S & T. The band concert was last week was superior and the 7th & 8th grade boys and girls basketball teams are off to a great start. The 2nd Issue of the RJH Student Newspaper is available. Check out the wonderful student work by clicking here: RJH STUDENTNEWS On Friday, December 15th, RJH hosted a No Tardy Party and over 500 students attended. That is an amazing number. The next incentive party and criteria will be announced to the students in January. Saturday, December 16th was the Snow Ball Dance sponsored by the parents. Thank you to all of the parents who donated cookies, prizes, and time by decorating and chaperoning in order to make the students first junior high dance a wonderful memory. I took pictures and you can view them and save any you would like. The pictures can be found by clicking here: SNOWBALLDANCEPICS The Home and School Partnership will be meeting on January 17th at 6:00 PM. All parents are welcome to attend and we hope to see you then. We will be organizing the activities for the 2nd semester and a representative from DESE will be here to discuss parental engagement. I wish you and your family a very Happy Holiday season. Sincerely, Dr. Fulton

MySchoolBucks Program Fee to Increase Parents who make online cafeteria payments using MySchoolBucks will see an increase in the Program Fee from $2.00 to $2.49 beginning Dec. 11, 2017. Rolla Public Schools is not responsible for this increase. It comes in direct relation to increased fees associated with card schemes that Heartland/ MySchoolBucks can no longer continue to absorb. This is the 1st time that the company has raised the Program Fee in 16 years. You are still encouraged to use all of the free features of a MySchoolBucks online account to monitor your child s cafeteria information. You are always welcome to send meal payments to school with your student and thus avoid any fee. The Program Fee is only applied whenever an online payment is made. If you have any questions, please contact Heartland/ MySchoolBucks via telephone at (855) 832-5226 or email them at support@myschoolbucks.com. Each month at RJH, students that demonstrate positivity and the bulldog code are nominated to become Student of the Month. Congratulations! Ella Kuhlman, Sun Lee, & William Shepherd, Absent from photo is Jonathan Reade 7th Grade Science It has been a busy 2nd quarter in Mr. Bonebrake s 7th grade science class. We have spent most of the quarter studying Earth and Space Science, consisting of the planet arrangement and the formation of the solar system. We will finish the study of Earth and Space Science before the winter break. Our next unit of study will be Force and motion, which is a very lengthy unit. The study of Force and Motion will consist of the direction of motion, straight line motion, circular motion, speed, velocity, and acceleration, friction, gravity, interaction of force and mass, and Newton s Laws of motion. Hope your child enjoys what I have in store for them next quarter. Ikie Bonebrake 7th Grade Science

Art Display Six works of art by RJH students are going to be in an art display this January in our state capital. You can see these impressive pieces in person in the State Board Room of the Jefferson Building in Jefferson City, Mo. They will also be available for viewing on the DESE website (www.dese.mo.gov). Congratulations to our RJH artists!

The RJH Home & school Partnership is sponsoring a dress up dance for the students. The parents are planning everything and will help chaperone. Tickets will be on sale before school and during lunch beginning December 11th. All proceeds will go to the RJH Home & School Partnership group funds. ALL students are welcome at the dance whether or not they have dress up clothes.

Mrs. Snodgrass has been in the 8th grade careers classes working with students to develop their Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP). Students have put a lot of thought and effort into exploring their high school and career options. If your student is taking careers class this semester, you should have seen and signed their planning worksheet. If you did not see this, and would like to, please contact Mrs. Snodgrass at the number below. We are very blessed to have a relationship with our Lioness and Lions Clubs here in town. With their generous donations, we are able to take several needy students shopping for Christmas. The students get an opportunity to select gifts for their families. This is a huge experience for them and the joy shows on their faces when we are finished shopping. Please visit your student/parent portal site to review your student s grades as we wind up the first semester on December 20th. Pay close attention to their AR score in English/Reading classes. That is an often overlooked area. We hope you have quality time with your families over the holidays. We truly enjoy working with your kids! As always, feel free to contact us anytime with questions or concerns.
