Page 2 ABOUT DAVIS ADVANTAGE Davis Advantage combines an innovative text with an online program that makes this challenging, but must-know content easier to master. The functionality within Davis Advantage is generally the same no matter which title you are using. However, there are certain functions available only to certain F.A. Davis titles. We will note this in the Getting Started guide. Davis Advantage is compatible with Internet Explorer 9+ and the most recent versions of Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Apple Safari. LOGGING INTO DAVIS ADVANTAGE/CREATING AN ACCOUNT Creating an account only takes a moment or two. Please Note: If you have a DavisPlus instructor account, your DavisPlus account credentials will also log you into Davis Advantage. STEP 1 Go to www.davisadvantage.com and click the LOGIN/JOIN button. STEP 2 information. A. Enter your login credentials and click LOGIN. B. If you do not have an account, click CREATE ACCOUNT and fill in your

Page 3 A. B. RESETTING PASSWORDS You can reset your password at any time. Option 1 Click the FORGOT PASSWORD link on the login page and enter your e-mail address. A link to reset your password will be e-mailed to you. If the e-mail doesn t arrive, please check your spam folder. Option 2/STEP 1 Click the dropdown arrow located by the Welcome message and select My Account. Option 2/STEP 2 Enter your new password and click SAVE. After the password successfully updates, a confirmation message will be displayed.

Page 4 DASHBOARD After logging into Davis Advantage, you will need to Launch the product to begin creating your class. You can click Preview Student View to see an example view of the student experience. Then, your Class Dashboard will be displayed. CREATING A CLASS You must create a class to track your students progress. STEP 1 Click the Add Class button.

Page 5 Class Details After clicking the Add Class button, the Class Setup page opens. STEP 2 Enter your class details. Class Name Add your class name. This is a mandatory field. Class Description Include a description of the course. This field is optional. Class Start and End Dates Enter the start and end dates for the class. This is a mandatory field. The start date is the date on which your class will become available to students. The end date is the date after which work will no longer be accepted. The class will end at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on the chosen end date. Students will still have access to Davis Advantage as a resource after a class ends (for the remainder of their subscription period). Auto-Enroll Auto-Enroll Students will be pre-selected so that your students will be automatically added to your class when they enter the Class ID (see section on Class ID).

Page 6 Include Independent Study Check this box if you want students independent work (completed outside of a class) to be imported into your class upon enrollment. Work from other classes cannot be imported. Leave this un-checked if you want all students to begin with a clean slate. Class ID Each class created within Davis Advantage will have a unique Class ID. The instructor must provide students the unique Class ID in order for them to access the Davis Advantage class, take assignments, and make progress viewable to the instructor. It is recommended to paste your Class ID into your syllabus, learning management system, or an email to students. Confirming Class Creation There are two ways to confirm that the class has been successfully created. For each option, the Class ID number is displayed. First, you must create a class. After entering the class details and clicking the Save and Continue button, a message will appear confirming your Class ID. The Class ID will remain on your Class Dashboard for future reference. Davis Edge Class Creation Med-Surg or Basic Nursing Adopters Only* This applies only to instructors using the Medical-Surgical Nursing book written by Janice Hoffman or the Basic Nursing text by Leslie Treas: *Creating a class in Davis Advantage will also create a class in Davis Edge with the same Class Name and Class ID. Students will input the instructor s Class ID into Davis Advantage and, once enrolled, they will automatically be granted access to the corresponding class in Davis Edge. Select Content Model Med-Surg or Basic Nursing Adopters Only* This step applies only to instructors using the Medical-Surgical Nursing book written by Janice Hoffman or the Basic Nursing text by Leslie Treas: Please select a content model. There are two organizational models: (1) Traditional or (2) Conceptbased. All topics (videos, activities, and assessments) are available in both models. Students will see only the view that you have chosen.

Page 7 Select Content You have the option to customize the course content. By default, all topics are included, but you may remove any of them by clicking the button in the Status column, turning it from on to off. When finished, remember to choose "Save and Continue" button at the bottom of the screen. Preview Student Content In the Select Content tab, click on "Preview," Pre-Assessment, or Post-Assessment to view the content within the topic.

Page 8 Reorder Topics Once you have selected the content you want to include, you can customize the sequence by dragging and dropping topics into the order you d like to appear to students. Set Start/Due Dates You may choose to set start dates and due dates for each topic. Click on the calendar icons to choose specific dates. The start date dictates when a topic will appear on the students dashboard. Due dates signify when the work should be completed. Start/due date selections may reorder the content, if they do not match the sequence on the Reorder page. Please note that the assignments will be due by 11:59 p.m. Eastern on the chosen due date (see Late Work section). View Summary The last step of Class Setup provides an overview of all content you have chosen to include in the class, with start and end dates. You can make edits by clicking on the navigation bar at the top to revisit a previous tab. Print the summary outline by clicking on the blue Print Summary button at the top to distribute to the classroom as a syllabus, or complete the class creation process by clicking Save and Exit at the bottom of the page.

Page 9 MANAGE YOUR CLASSES After creating your class(es), class information will be displayed on the Dashboard. View Class To view your class, including information on student performance, the class roster, and the Personalized Teaching Plans, click View.

Page 10 Edit Class To adjust settings that were made during the class creation process, click Edit. Preview Student Class The Preview Student Class button allows the instructor to view the class experience as dictated by the class settings (selected content, due dates, etc.). This preview reflects what enrolled students will see once they ve entered the unique Class ID. Clone Class If you teach the same class to multiple sections or from semester-to-semester, you may want to copy, or clone, a class. To clone the class, click Clone and then adjust the class customization settings as needed. Each new class section will have a unique Class ID. Delete Class To delete a class, click Delete and approve the validation message.

Page 11 Roster To access the class roster, View the class and then click Roster. If you turned off Auto-Enroll, you will see a Pending Students notification and must enter the roster to reject or approve students. From the Roster page, you can export the students work into a spreadsheet that is compatible with your Learning Management System. Note that Davis Advantage tracks completion, not grades.

Page 12 From the Roster page, you can view each student s Personalized Learning Plan (PLP). Manage Instructors You can invite colleagues to join your class by clicking MANAGE and then Add Instructor. Enter your colleague s email address, then select the Access Type (permissions) for that user. When finished, click Add Instructor at the bottom of the window. CLASS OVERVIEW (STUDENTS WORK) To access the class overview from your Dashboard, click on View button next to the class.

Page 13 To navigate between the Overview, Roster, and Personalized Teaching Plans (PTP), click on the buttons in the navigation bar. From the overview, you can see due dates, student participation/completion, and average time spent in each topic. View Topic Details For each topic, a quick glance reveals overall class performance on the pre- and post-assessments. For overall class performance, you may see the following: Red thumbs down: 69% of the students in the class or fewer demonstrated competency on the pre-assessment or post-assessment. Yellow thumbs up: 70%-84% of the students in the class demonstrated competency on the pre-assessment or post-assessment. Green thumbs up: 85%-100% of the students in the class demonstrated competency on the pre-assessment or post-assessment

Page 14 View (Student) Details To view student results, click View Details next to the topic level. You will see all student results. To view an individual student s responses to the pre-and post-assessment, click View Results. On the individual student level, students receive: Red thumbs-down if they score less than 80% on a pre- or post-assessment for a topic (demonstrating the need for remediation) Green thumbs-up if they score 80% or greater on a pre- or post-assessment for a topic (demonstrating competency) Student Progress/Completion There are two scenarios for 100% completion in Davis Advantage: 1. Student receives a green thumbs-up on the pre-assessment; he/she has demonstrated competency for that topic and is not required to complete all remaining items. 2. Student receives a red thumbs-down on the pre-assessment; he/she must then complete the video, activity, and post-assessment. Late Work If a student completes a topic after your set due date, the Date Complete stamp will be highlighted in red to designate late submission. PERSONALIZED TEACHING PLAN (PTP) Just as students assessment results feed into their Personalized Learning Plan (PLP), a class s pre- and post-assessment results drive the Personalized Teaching Plan (PTP). A PTP is offered for each topic, with a heavy focus on in-class activities, small group work, case studies, and discussions aimed at getting students more deeply connected with the content. This

Page 15 allows you to flip the classroom, have your students more active and engaged, and to spend valuable class time on items that meet the needs of both the students and instructors. Accessing the Personalized Teaching Plan (PTP) To access the entire library of Personalized Teaching Plans, access the class and then click (1) the PTP tab, (2) Filter to display All, and then (3) View PDF. To add a PTP to your list of My PTPs, access the Overview tab and select Add to PTP for that topic area.
