Overview of the Admission Process The Hartsville High School International Baccalaureate (IB) Magnet Programme offers students the most challenging and highly regarded college preparatory program in the world. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is rigorous, leading to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world s leading universities. Through the Hartsville High School IB Magnet Programme, students learn more than just a collection of facts. The Diploma Programme prepares students for university by encouraging them to: ask challenging questions. learn how to learn. The Darlington County School District uses an open admission policy for students who wish to participate in the Hartsville High School IB Magnet Programme based on academic merit and not through a lottery system. A student must complete an application and participate in an admission conference with the IB teachers and administrators before being accepted into the program. Standardized tests scores, academic transcript, attendance and discipline records, a writing sample, and teacher recommendations may be used to determine whether or not the Hartsville High School IB Magnet Programme is appropriate for the applicant. The deadline for receipt of an application for enrollment at the Hartsville High School International Baccalaureate (IB) Magnet Programme is October 14, 2016 (no later than 4:30 P.M.). Steps to Complete the Application Packet 1. Complete the Application Form online at www.darlington.k12.sc.us. develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture. develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures. 2. Have your guidance counselor complete the Academic Information Form and attach a copy of your 2015-2016 transcript, current class schedule, available standardized test scores, a 2016-2017 first quarter report card, discipline record, and attendance record to the form. *If your child attended a school outside of the district for the previous school year, please attach a copy of your standardized test scores (SC READY, Aspire, SCPASS, Stanford), a final report card, a discipline record, and an attendance record from the school. 3. Complete an essay discussing how you have challenged yourself intellectually and academically. 4. Cut the Teacher Recommendation Forms and give to two teachers you list on the Application Form. (Both recommendations should come from core subject teachers, e.g., English, math, science, or social studies teachers). The teachers are responsible for completing their recommendations ONLINE at www.darlington.k12.sc.us. 5. When submitting online, you may print the last screen once you have completed the application that says you have successfully submitted the application for your records. Please note, if you fax your magnet application, it should be copied on white paper and then faxed. It is the sender s responsibility to make sure the fax was received and legible. Note: It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure receipt of the application to the Office of Innovative Programs no later than 4:30 P.M. on October 14, 2016. Honor Graduate and Junior Marshals Policy Class ranks will be used to identify and select honor graduates and Junior Marshals. Each high school will select honor graduates at the end of the seventh semester. A student must attend high school within the Darlington County School District for at least three semesters and be enrolled at the high school from which he/she is graduating for the last four semesters to be considered as a twelfth grade honor graduate. Junior Marshals will be selected at the end of the fifth semester. A student must attend high school within the district for at least three semesters and be enrolled at the high school in which he/she is to be named Junior Marshal for the last two semesters to be considered. Transportation Policy If the student is zoned to attend Hartsville High School, the district will provide transportation. If the student is NOT zoned for Hartsville High School, the district WILL NOT provide transportation.

January 9, 2017 If your magnet application has been denied, today is the deadline to request an appeal. January 26, 2017 Selection interviews will be held at Hartsville High School from 5:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M. June 2, 2017 This is the deadline for parents to request a change for their child to return to their home school after accepting a slot at a magnet school. After this date, the student must attend the magnet school selected until the end of the first semester. Any student wishing to return to their home school must complete the necessary paperwork DURING the first semester. If approved, the student will be allowed to return to their home school on the first day of the second semester.
