POST TITLE: Librarian and Learning Resource Centre Manager STATUS: Permanent, Term Time (+2 wks), 36 Hrs SALARY: Scale 6 LINE MANAGER: Lead Practitioner - English JOB DESCRIPTION To manage the day to day operation of the Library/Learning Resource Centre Manager, to raise the profile of the library and to promote reading across the school. To run an efficient, welcoming and popular library service for all students. To provide curriculum support to staff and pupils through the organisation and delivery of learning material. To give guidance and advice to students and staff creating an environment that promotes the learning ethos of the school. The post holder will be expected to: General DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To assist in the implementation of the School s Reading and Literacy Policies To manage the Learning Resource Centre s staff and student helpers in order to ensure it is operating in an efficient manner and meeting the needs of the School To review policies and procedures to ensure that the Learning Resource Centre meets service specifications as agreed with the Headteacher To administer the Learning Resource Centre s budget, selecting and purchasing all resources To manage a central ordering service for all learning resources purchased within the School To manage and maintain the Library Management System, keeping accurate and current records of all learning resources in accordance with School policy To create and implement the School Library policies, in order to support the School in meeting its targets To keep up to date with major changes in the profession and manage the Professional Development of the Learning Resource Centre s staff To provide regular reports on the needs and performance of the Learning Resource Centre and maintain a record in order to monitor its effectiveness To classify and catalogue all books and learning resources To organise and provide training to all staff and any subsequent Learning Resource Centre staff To manage and develop the physical layout, furniture and fittings of the Learning Resource Centre To monitor sixth form students within the library
Promotion of reading and literacy To promote and develop students literacy skills To take an active role in developing events and activities to promote reading and the use of the Library across the academic year To run an after-school enrichment activity every week to help develop a life-long love of reading amongst the students To liaise with all Curriculum Teams in the School and with the wider learning community, to ensure that there is appropriate access for staff and students to relevant and motivational learning resources including up to date ICT resources and facilities To attend and hold meetings with relevant teaching staff to identify current and future resources and information needs To promote and facilitate independent learning and individual development in the LRC To ensure the LRC is a centre of excellence in terms of display To assist in the professional development of teachers and other staff as requested to help them use the LRC s resources more effectively To provide multimedia learning resources for staff and students in active support of the curriculum and its development To participate in the planning and delivery of information literacy programmes within the school to ensure continuous development of the LRC s services To provide and maintain a comprehensive database of all learning resources and train students and staff in using it, either individually or as a class activity, as appropriate Learning Resource Centre Responsible for the overall day-to-day running of the LRC in relation to management of resources and creating a positive learning environment Manage to process of shelving, labelling, repair, retrieval and withdrawal of resources Undertake desk duties, including the issuing resources and responding to pupil enquiries Supervise the LRC, maintaining good order and discipline Develop the role of the student librarians and supervise their work Oversee the printing and production of materials and assist with printing / production of material for teaching staff when required Undertake the ordering of new resources Co-ordinate student book fairs Undertake stock control procedures to maintain adequate stock levels Undertake administrative duties, including filing and word processing Line-manage other members of staff assigned to support the LRC. Develop an awareness of reading across the school and promote it to students
Provide homework support sessions and reading opportunities for students outside of school hours Reprographic and Printing Duties Ensure that all members of the school community adhere to Copyright Legislation Manage printing facilities, replacing toner cartridges and rectifying paper jams, liaising with the Network Technician Advise of developments in suitable reprographic and copying equipment Monitor levels of consumable stock, including paper and stationary, liaising with the Team Leader for Technical Services regarding re-ordering General Duties Participate in the annual performance management process Provide effective management experience of other library staff by giving formal and on the job training to ensure an enthusiastic and proactive service at all times and arranging where necessary external formal training for staff Liaise with other schools and professional librarians Participate in Faculty/Department meetings and support staff training and development sessions Accompany student trips as requested To assist and facilitate LRC users in the use of ICT, including Microsoft packages, CD-ROMs, the Internet, other ICT software and equipment including the interactive whiteboard and projector To work collaboratively as a member of the School Admin Team To play a full and active part in the life of the School Community To support the safeguarding of students and staff To support the School s distinctive mission and ethos To lead by example and from the front To encourage and ensure staff and students follow the example set and to challenge constructively when the standards set are not met To promote actively the School s corporate identity and policies To continue to be a lifelong learner and encourage others to be the same To undertake other duties as directed by the line manager or Headteacher Whilst every effort has been made to set down the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task to be undertaken may not be identified.this job description is current at the date shown, but, in consultation with you, may be changed by the Head teacher to reflect or anticipate changes in the job commensurate with the grade and job title.
