Its Instrument of Government states that it is part of the Catholic Church and is to be conducted as a Catholic school in accordance with Canon Law, the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Trust Deed of the Archdiocese of Liverpool. At all times the school is to serve as a witness to the Catholic Faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ. This appointment is with the governors of the school under the terms of the Catholic Education Service contract signed with the governors as employers. The governing body and the Diocese are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young persons and the Principal must ensure that the highest priority is given to following the guidance and regulations to safeguard children and young people. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure from the DBS and obtain any other statutorily required clearance. The applicant will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. This job description forms part of the contract of employment of the person appointed to the post. It reflects the position at the present time only and may be reviewed in negotiation with the employee in the future. GENERIC 1.1 This post is part of the leadership team within Science. It involves working in close co-operation with the Director of Science. The responsibilities are listed but they are not intended to be exhaustive because all TLR-holders share a corporate responsibility with the Principal in managing the school. 1.2 To promote the Catholic Ethos of the school. To consistently deliver planned series of lessons to elicit rapid and sustained learning and progress from students. To support the Director of Learning in Science in the development of staff, Inset provision for staff, including following Performance Management targets and lesson observations and contribute to the Staff Induction Programme within Science. To support the Director of Learning in Science to mentor trainee teachers, including provision of timetables, helping to plan lessons, observing and monitoring trainees progress, meetings with trainees and university tutors and completing appropriate paperwork for providers. 1.7 To share and support the disciplinary system within the school with specific responsibility for Science. 1.8 To contribute to the efficient organisation and management of the school. 1.9 To support the Director of Learning in Science in ensuring Science staff are prepared for visits from OFSTED, HMI and LA Inspectors. 1.10 To liaise with external sources of guidance in Science relating to teaching & learning, e.g. attendance at PiXL, LASSP etc meetings 1.11 To have the highest expectations of professional and academic standards in a manner which reflects our mission statement. 1.12 To deputise for the Director of Learning in Science where appropriate. 1.13 Any other duties, as may reasonably be requested by the Principal. 2. SPECIFIC 2.1 2.2 2.3 To manage the quality of teaching and learning within the Science department, to ensure that the best teaching strategies are shared across the whole team, in order to raise the standards of achievement within Science. To support the Director of Learning in Science to co-ordinate the planning, delivery, assessments and recording of all aspects of Science in the specific area indicated by the Director of Learning in Science. To support the Curriculum & Data Co-ordinator in Science to give support and leadership strength to the Director of Learning in Science, in delivering high quality outcomes for all learners. 2.4 To support the Director of Learning in Science in developing a coherent Science 11-16 Curriculum, which provides courses of study at Levels 1 and 2, including extra-curricular activities, and which meets all statutory requirements. 2.5 To support the Director of Learning in Science in monitoring pupil progress and attendance of all 11-16 learners through the analysis of data in terms of the quality of teaching and learning. 2.6 To support the Director of Learning in Science in ensuring all students make progress in line with agreed targets set with Assistant Principal: Student Standards & Outcomes (SSO) 2.7 To support the Director of Learning in Science in ensuring students are suitably supported and challenged whilst they experience a stimulating, relevant and flexible curriculum. 2.8 To support the Director of Learning in Science in working with other curriculum areas in delivering cross curricular projects specifically relating to teaching and learning. 2.9 To support the Director of Learning in Science in behaviour management within Science, to develop a consistent approach to Behaviour for Learning in line with school policy. 2.10 To advise the Director of Learning in Science on relevant CPD issues, attending School, LA and where appropriate externally held meetings proactively enabling members of the department to implement strategies to raise achievement. 2.11 To advise the department on appropriate teaching and learning resources, in conjunction with the advice given from the Assistant Principal: Teaching, Learning & Assessment (TLA). 2.12 To advise Science teachers in preparing students for internal and external examinations in the specific area indicated by the Director of Learning in Science. 2.13 To analyse quality assurance data on the quality of learning and teaching in the department, such as learning walks, work scrutiny, lesson observations, ensuring deadlines are met and advise the Director of Learning in Science on appropriate actions. 2.14 To ensure gifted and talented and identified groups of students are motivated, challenged and supported in Science through high quality teaching and learning, and with effective and thorough monitoring of performance. 2.15 To liaise with the Assistant Principal: (TLA) to develop high quality exemplar teaching and learning materials, to improve whole staff expertise and quality delivery 2.16 To liaise with the TLR-holder for Teacher Development to ensure all recently qualified teachers in the Science team are supported effectively to further develop and hone their teaching and learning skills 2.17 To liaise with the TLR-holder for Able Pupils to develop the department s skills and expertise in raising expectations and outcomes for higher ability students 2.18 To lead Science department meetings where they focus on teaching and learning and intervention planning 3. 3.2 Be the first point of contact for parents/carers of students in the tutor group. 3.3 Monitor (and set targets for) the social and academic progress of individuals in the tutor group. 3.4 Be prepared to undertake responsibility for delivery of the PHSE programme to one or more tutor group. 3.5 Promote good attendance and monitor in accordance with the school's attendance policy, including at Stage 1 attendance. 3.6 Lead a daily Collective Act of Worship. 3.7 Attend all year team meetings with Progress Leaders and Year Managers, when required for the relevant year group. 3.8 Write the appropriate form tutor comments on the annual reports for this form group, to the relevant deadline 4. PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS 4.1 Support the mission and aims of the school. 4.2 Treat all members of the community, colleagues and students, with respect and consideration. 4.3 Treat all students fairly, consistently and without prejudice. 4.4 Set a good example to learners in terms of appropriate dress, standards of punctuality and attendance. 4.5 Promote the aims of the school by attendance at and participation in events such as open evenings, options evenings, residentials, extra-curricular programme and other activities for pupil development. 4.6 Support the ethos of the school by upholding the behaviour code, uniform regulations etc. 4.7 Take responsibility for your own professional development and participate in staff training when provided. 4.8 Reflect on your own practice as well as the practices of the school with aim of improving all that we do. 4.9 Read and adhere to the various policies of the school, the School Improvement Plan, the Manual of Guidance, subject team/year team documentation. 4.10 Participate in the management of school by attending various team and staff meetings according to the calendar. 4.11 Undertake duties as prescribed within school policies. 4.12 Ensure that all deadlines are met as published in the school calendar. 4.13 Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned to them by the Principal. 4.14 Be proactive and take responsibility for matters relating to health and safety. This is not an exhaustive list and needs to be read in conjunction with the current conditions of service for Middle Leaders contained in the School Teachers Pay and Conditions document and other current education and employment legislation. In carrying out his/her duties the Teaching & Learning Co-ordinator (Science) shall consult, where appropriate, the Governing Body, the Local Authority, and the staff of the school and the parents /carers of its students.
