ACCEL UPDATE ACCEL IMPORTANT FACTS In order to be eligible for Accel funds, a 9-12 grade high school student must be taking coursework leading to an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree Beginning with the fall term 2011, Accel courses have not been included in the HOPE Combined Paid-Hours limit
ACCEL UPDATE IMPORTANT BASIC FACTS Accel courses are to be taken in three consecutive quarters or two consecutive semesters, beginning with the fall term and ending with the spring term
ACCEL UPDATE RESIDENCY/CITIZENSHIP A student must meet and continue to meet the Georgia Residency for purposes of Accel eligibility A student must be a United States citizen or an Eligible Non-Citizen for 12 consecutive months immediately prior to the first day of classes of the school term for which the Accel payment is sought
ACCEL UPDATE ACCEL IMPORTANT FACTS Accel students are eligible as part- or full-time and will pay up to a maximum of 15 hours per semester Joint Enrollment students at a postsecondary institution are ineligible for Accel Program payments.
ACCEL UPDATE ACCEL IMPORTANT FACTS Learning Support (remedial) coursework is ineligible for Accel Responsibilities of the Eligible High School Application Process. A student must complete an Accel Program Application and submit it to his or her Eligible High School for each school term
ACCEL UPDATE ACCEL IMPORTANT FACTS Accel funds are not available for summer terms Participation can be denied at any time by either the Eligible High School or the Eligible Postsecondary Institution for violations of their rules Accel contact is Albert Pat Blenke, ablenke@doe.k12.ga.us
ACCEL UPDATE ACCEL CHANGES 1. Accel eligibility has unlimited semesters or quarters NEW 2. Students could take full load at high school and additional dual courses at the same time NEW 3. If student taking combination of 7 or more courses per semester, system reports 6 segments of choice NEW
ACCEL UPDATE ACCEL CHANGES 4. Beginning FY 14, high school graduates with core dual enrollment courses on their transcripts will have.5 added to the grades for GPA HOPE Scholarship calculation NEW 5. Weight cannot raise grade above 4.0 NEW 6. This does not apply to the local grade, just HOPE Scholarship calculation NEW
ACCEL UPDATE ACCEL CHANGES 7. Beginning this past Fall 2012, if a dual student s college grade is a D which could be in the 60 s, and it is a passing grade at the postsecondary institution, the dual student could receive credit at high school NEW 8. HB 324-FAFSA will not be required for dual or HOPE NEW 9. Any 9-12 grade student can participate but must meet Accel s, the secondary and postsecondary guidelines
ACCEL UPDATE ACCEL INFORMATION Local system can set requirements for dual students Sign-off sheet at the eligible high school is required before a student can participate High school courses by 8 th graders are not counted in HOPE GPA No 8 th graders can participate in dual enrollment programs
ACCEL UPDATE ACCEL INFORMATION Duplicate credit-dual core courses on approved lists and for elective credit only (Memo 8/7/2012 to Superintendents) Summer credit from out of state institutions is local decision but EOCT is required if from a non-accredited institution

MOWR UPDATE MOWR INFORMATION All courses must be taken at the college Correct coding is crucial and costly Dual credit unit conversions are not flexible for local systems to adjust Verification dates are September 17, and January 17
