We have lots of events coming up, so make sure to get them on your calendar. County Club Days is this month and I can t wait to see what everyone is preparing. Remember, this counts towards your purple seal for your club! If you do anything related to your projects, you could include that as a leadership activity in that projects KAP. Good luck to everyone who plans to compete! The 4-H Open House in January Re-Enrollment & VIP Screening Keep reminding everyone in your club and your friends to get re-enrolled on 4-H Online! We need to get everyone re-enrolled as soon as possible. If they plan on attending any camps, conferences, or exhibiting at the county fair they ll need to enroll before they can do that. Also note that in order to weigh-in any livestock, the exhibitor must be enrolled before weigh-in. FORD COUNTY 4-H CLUB DAYS Saturday, February 11 @DCMS (Registration DUE By Feb. 1) REGIONAL 4-H CLUB DAYS Saturday, February 18 @DCMS Animal Sciences Leadership Academy Students from across the country with an interest in the livestock industry and related careers can apply now for the Kansas State University Animal Sciences Leadership Academy. The academy is an intensive four-day educational experience designed to enhance the leadership skills and animal science knowledge of students in 9th through 12th grades. BOTH DATES WILL BEGIN AT 8:00AM. Hosted by the K-State Department of Animal Sciences and Industry Schedules will be available online prior and sponsored by the Livestock and Meat Industry Council, the to the event. academy s goal is to develop young leaders within the livestock industry and prepare them for a successful future in this field. Sessions will take place June 14-17 in Manhattan. Applications are due April 1, 2017, and can be found at http://www.youthlivestock.ksu.edu. Only 20 students will be accepted to ensure individualized attention from counselors, professors and industry leaders. Livestock Weigh-In Dates If you are planning on showing livestock this year at the County Fair, you MUST weigh and tag your livestock at the respective weigh-in dates. There is a service charge of $25 to tag state animals not brought to respective weigh-in dates. What if the 4-H er is unable to be at the weigh-in? No worries, the ANIMAL can be brought to the weigh-in by anyone. Remember that you must be enrolled in 4-H online before we can tag your animals at weighin! If you have questions, just let us know! BEEF (STEERS, HEIFERS-MARKET & BREEDING, & 2ND YEAR BUCKET CALF) Thursday, February 16, 4:00 pm 6:30 pm @ Winter s Livestock Thursday, February 23 (snow date) Livestock Quality Counts A priority of the 4-H livestock projects is to teach members the proper animal husbandry methods and ethical practices when raising and showing livestock. Quality Counts Training is MANDATORY FOR ALL COUNTY 4-H ers who will be selling a Market Animal at the County Fair Livestock Sale. Two trainings are scheduled: Saturday, March 11, 11a.m., Ext. Office Tuesday, May 16, 6pm., Fair Building SMALL ANIMAL (SWINE, SHEEP, GOAT, BUCKET CALF) Tuesday, April 18 4:00pm 6:30pm @ Ford County Fair Grounds 2
4-H AMBASSADOR/EXCHANGE MEETING The next Ambassador/Exchange meeting will be Monday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m. Be sure to bring your applications if you do not have these in. 4-H COUNCIL & LEADERS MEETING The next meeting will be held on Monday, March 27th. Community Club Leaders will meet at 6:30 p.m. followed by 4-H Council at 7:00 p.m. FLEA MARKET The Exchange Trip group will be hosting a spring Flea Market on Saturday, April 1st at the Fair Building. Proceeds to benefit the 4-H Exchange Trip program. If you are interested in having a table at the Flea Market, call the office for more info or to reserve a spot. THANK YOU!!!! Registration will be posted soon! Ambuc Show The 2016 Ambuc Show is scheduled for March 4-6. If you would like to volunteer to help work the Fairboard Booth, please contact the office. This would look great in a leadership KAP! Camp Scholarships The Ford County 4-H Foundation voted to increase scholarship amounts! They give $50 to go towards Discovery Days and Heart of Kansas Camp! This makes a huge different for all of our 4-H ers who attend these events. Make sure to thank the foundation members if you see them! KAP/RECORD BOOK There will be a KAP/Record Book Training on Saturday March 11th at 1pm at the Extension Office. The next training will be Tuesday, May 16th at 7:00pm. Buy a calendar to record all of your 4-H activities and start filling it in now. This will make it much easier to fill out your KAP! You can also start planning what citizenship and leadership activities you are going to do for the projects that you are filling a KAP out for. If you need any help planning activities that would fulfill these, please contact Lexi for help.
