Your tutor will (re-)introduce you to the language and assume no prior knowledge. Most learners in this course will have participated in King Edward VII School s Level 1 Course i.e. have studied the language for 1 year. A typical learner will have studied the language for at least two years, i.e. participated in the and 2 classes at King Edward VII School. Intermediate Conversation A class for adults who would like to focus on developing their intermediate speaking skills. Level 4 A typical learner will have studied the language for at least three years, i.e. participated in the, 2 and 3 classes at King Edward VII School Advanced Conversation A class for adults who would like to maintain their advanced (e.g. post-a- Level) language skills. GCSE A class for adults who want to consolidate their learning by gaining a GCSE qualification. Learners must have recently studied the language for two years.

Course Levels and Content : Beginner This course is aimed at those that have no prior (or very little) prior knowledge of the target language. By the end of this course you should be able to hold a basic conversation in the target language, asking and answering simple questions, give opinions and make requests. You should also be able to read basic written text as well as write short statements. Your course will cover topics such as: Talking about your personal circumstances, where you live, your job, your background Using the language to order drinks, snacks or meals in a restaurant and finding your way around Using language in the relevant country on holiday, accommodation, travel and weather Giving simple opinions and making requests : Beginner Plus This course will introduce you to different tenses in the target language, meaning that by the end of the course, you should be able to communicate in the past and describe actions that will take place in the future. You should also be able to understand simple texts, catch the main point of announcements and write messages in the target language. Your course will cover topics such as: Revision and extension of topics in Describing and making future plans Using the language to visit the pharmacy or doctor and explain what has happened Requesting information and making complaints in hotels, restaurants and shops Intermediate This intermediate level course will introduce you to further tenses and more complex structures in the target language. By the end of this course you should be able to give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans, describe experiences and write connected text. Your course will cover topics such as: Revision and extension of topics in and Describing how things used to be and what you used to do in the past Your ideal holiday and how you would like things to be Describing your favourite films or other leisure activities and making comparisons Intermediate Conversation This course offers learners the opportunity to focus on and develop their intermediate spoken skills. Resources in the target langauge will be used to encourage more sponatenous speaking and support learners to use more complex structures when speaking. The focus is developing intermediate conversational skills with some reading/listening material used as a basis for oral practice and some written work undertaken for homework. Level 4 Intermediate Plus This upper intermediate level course will ask learners to process more complex authentic material and use a range of grammatical structures in both speaking and writing. By the end of this course you should be able to interact with a degree of fluency in familiar contexts, present clear detailed descriptions and express and explain a viewpoint. Your course will cover topics such as: Revision and extension of topics in, and The use of the subjunctive mood Developing all four skills with the focus on the comprehension and use of complex structures and increased spontaneity and fluency when speaking Advanced Conversation This course covers themes of topical interest, mutually negotiated between tutor and course participants. The course is entirely taught in the target language. The course content will be tailored to learners needs and interests and is likely to cover topical issues as they arise, such as current affairs or news items. The focus is on maintaining advanced conversational skills with some reading/listening material used as a basis for oral practice and some written work undertaken for homework.
