High School First Semester FINAL EXAMS Wednesday, January 13 & Thursday, January 14th

Message from our Superintendent / Elementary Principal Dear Parents and Guardians, Happy new calendar year! New Year s always brings the promise of fresh starts, new beginnings, and hopeful resolutions. Even though our school year begins in September, January is also a time of beginnings at school--new units of study, new projects, and planning for the next academic year. As we reach the midpoint of the school year at the end of this month, it is time for us to sit down and review the importance of our education. The next couple of winter months can be wearing on us especially our students. We need to stay focused on the purpose of our academics. Help your student by reminding them what a quality education can do. Remind them that the positive efforts they put in will have lasting effects. With your daily involvement in their school activities they are bound to see the benefits. We continue to look forward to having your wonderful presence in our schools. Thank you! For the many, many baked treats and goodies with which you had kindly showered us before the break, the staff joins me in thanking each of you! Not only did we have enough delicious cakes and cookies to nibble and feast on throughout the day, but had even more to take home to our families! It is a joy to work with each of you and to watch the Weston children grow and develop. We hope all of your beginnings, transitions, and resolutions result in a great 2016! May the 2016 year bring the Weston School District families an abundance of happiness and success! Sincerely, Emily Miller, Superintendent Save your Box Tops for Education Labels Drop off in Elementary Office

Message from our Middle / High School Principal Hello Parents/Guardians The Holiday season is behind us, I hope yours was full of family, fun, and relaxation. The Holiday Season also marks the midpoint of our school year which means we have a lot more great things coming up. The high school will have final exams on Wednesday, January 13th and Thursday, January 14th. The whole middle and high school will be running a modified schedule those two days. High School final exams are tests that show the knowledge and skills gained during first semester classes. Exams can be time consuming and rigorous, please encourage your child to prepare. Final exam week can also be a hectic and tiring time for your children. A healthy breakfast each morning and good night sleep each evening can help your child do their best on their final exams. Exam days could change depending on the weather. The winter sports seasons are in full swing. Our basketball and wrestling teams are working very hard and seeing much success. We hope you can find time to attend a game or two before the winter season ends. Sports schedules can be found on the school webpage or you can stop in the main office for a printed copy. As part of our PBIS Initiative we have chosen Goal Setting as our January activity. The new year is a great time to set a goal and see it through. Each middle and high school student will develop a goal with the help and guidance of their homeroom teacher. We have chosen to use the SMART Goal model (Specific- Measurable-Attainable-Realistic-Timely) and have an end date of January 28th. Examples of month long goals may include: having no missing work, being on time for all of their classes, limiting phone/ipad time to 60 minutes a day, or not snacking after 6:00pm. Homeroom teachers will help monitor and support each goal by doing weekly checks on progress and suggesting adjustments or support. Each student who meets their goal will be treated to a pizza and pop party at the end of the day on February 4th. We will also have EAGLE Card drawings for various small prizes for students at the party. Be sure to ask your child about their goal and help them be successful! As always, thank you for your support and feel free to call or email if you have any questions or need help with any school related items Sincerely, Mike Crneckiy MS/HS Principal/Director of Pupil Services

COUNSELOR S CORNER Counselor Corner-January Financial Aid night will be held at Ithaca High School on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 starting at 6:30 pm. All senior and junior students along with their parents are invited to attend this session on completing the FAFSA and securing financial aid for college. A representative from UW-Richland Center will present valuable information regarding paying for college and securing financial aid. Weston High School hosted the event last year. The FAFSA is completed in February following the completion of personal tax forms. Students can receive money to attend college in the form of grants, work-study and loans by completing the FAFSA. All students will be scheduling for high school coursework for the 2016-17 school year starting in late January. Course description booklets and sign-up sheets will be available during that time so that students can select courses. All students must take a minimum of 7 credits. Credit requirements were increased to 3 credits of both Science and Math for 2017 graduates and beyond. Students need 24 credits to graduate from High School.
