Steps to Follow This is the Pearson App Store where you will find access to Words Their Way: Word Study in Action Digital. Click Words Their Way Apps. Select your device. The symbols stand for your three options. Click the buttons beneath the symbol to gain access to the Teacher and Student Apps. Download the Teacher and Student Apps or browser version. Please download the Apple Apps directly from the itunes store. Apple is a registered trademark of Apple Inc. itunes store is a registered trademark of Apple Inc. To access the apps, you will need your credentials. Select your district name, and enter your credentials to log in. My username is: My password is: Broadcast, project, and expand content. If you do not have credentials contact your district administrator. Throughout the lessons, teachers have the ability to broadcast, project, and expand content: Broadcast pushes content to students devices. Project displays content using a whiteboard or projector. Log in to the Teacher App. Explore the Planner tab. The drop-down menu in the top-left corner allows teachers to select content for the five developmental spelling stages. Click the drop-down arrow and choose All Books. This will take you to the QSI (Qualitative Spelling Inventory). Click the drop-down arrow again and choose a stage. This will take you to an overview of the sorts. o The planner provides an overview of each sort and the words to be taught and practiced. The bottom of the screen has six main tabs: Planner (what you are currently on), Sorts, Assignments, Library, Messages, and Connect. Let s explore each tab. Click Planner in the navigation bar. To begin, select a developmental stage from the top-left drop-down menu. Select a sort from the Sort drop-down menu. Read the Student Objectives and Sort instructions. Click Teach at the bottom of the screen. This will automatically take you into the Sort section of the bottom navigation panel. Explore the Sorts tab. Explore the Introduce segment. The Introduce segment varies depending on the stage you are teaching. Emergent Early Letter Name, Letter Name, and Within Word Pattern stages: Read a rhyme from the Big Book of Rhymes to introduce the sort. Introduce/Model the Sort. Choose one of the following three ways: 1. Use a print assignment from the consumable Student Book. 2. Use the Project button on this screen to discuss sort categories. 3. Go to the Assignments tab to model online. Syllables and Affixes and Derivational Relations stages: Introduce the sort by displaying the words and reading them aloud. Model the Sort. Explore the Model segment. Notice the Translate button on right side of screen. 46 languages Translates directions (I icon) Translates word list (+ icon) Click and drag words or images to the correct column. A green checkmark will appear when correctly placed. A red checkmark will appear when incorrectly placed. Two errors are allowed before autocorrect placement. When modeling is complete, click on the top-left arrow to go back to the Assignments tab. Assign assignments. Assign a sort by clicking Send to class. Teachers can broadcast to students or ask students to click the Assignments tab to view their assignments. Students can practice sorts independently and submit the sort when finished. Explore the Apply segment. Apply the Sort can be modeled from the projector while students use either the print Student Edition or the Notebook tab on their device. Students can: Enter the Notebook. Click on Class Notes. Choose a graphic organizer. Complete the Apply assignment. Save the note. Teachers can view the Notebook in real time from the Assignments tab: Click on a student s name. Click View Notebook. The second dot on the Apply screen has students do a Word Hunt in the suggested book. Explore the Library tab. Click Library in the navigation bar. Explore the different ways to view the texts. Search for texts by title, author, or genre. Click a text to preview it. Teachers can project the book while students use the Notebook feature to record the words found in the book, or students can read the book on their own devices. Explore the Extend the Sort segment. Extend the Sort develops vocabulary. Teachers can broadcast the assignment while students use their Notebook to complete the assignment. Explore the Messages and Connect tabs. Click Messages in the navigation bar. Check to see if there are any alert messages or updates. Click Connect in the navigation bar. Type in a question and options to create a sample poll. Click Buzz to explore how to send comments and stars to students.
