Tandridge Academic Support for Kenya Newsletter Issue No. 04 2015 A B i g T h a n k Yo u We would like to thank you all for supporting TASK in the last year. We are happy to report that TASK has sponsored 6 new students this year who passed their Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination. We didn t get any individual or direct sponsorships this year. TASK s Quiz night held on the 30/10/2014 at Tandridge village hall raised monies to sponsor 3 students who are now in Form 2. We also raised monies for the charity through TASK Bridge play sessions held at St. Mary s and Sacred Heart, Caterham. We also raised 2,180 during 2014 from the TASK Refreshment Student Fund which we collect from the sale of tea and coffee at Bridge classes and play sessions. TASK has sponsored 6 new students for the next 4 years of their high school education. Our first 2 candidates will seat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in November this year TASK is currently sponsoring a total of 24 students. U p d a t e o n T AS K s Cur r e n t St u d e n t s Esther Kinuthia is now in Form 4. Unfortunately her mum passed away in April 2014. She is a candidate this year and is now a boarder. She was position 11 out of 55. Dennis Njonge is also in Form 4. He is also a candidate this year. He was position 17 out of 197. David Nganga is now in Form 3. He sponsored by Mr & Mrs Jakeman and they kindly offered to have him transferred this year to a boarding school. He was position 4 out of 92 last term. Josephine Nyarangi is now in Form 3. She is sponsored by Mr & Mrs Turner. She was position 24 out of 50. Zakaria Wachira is now in Form 3. He was position 34 out of 96. Magdalene Wanja Chege is now in Form 2. She was position 2 out of 48. David Njogu is now in Form 2. He was position 15 out of 61. Neema Wanjiku is now in Form 2. She is sponsored by the Titsey Rotary and was position 14 out of 48. James Mungai is now in Form 2. He was position 6 out of 60. Grace Wanjiku is now 5 out 55. Cyrus Nganga is now in Form 2. He was position 3 out of 44.

Rosemary Wanjiku is now in Form 2. She was position 6 out 44. George Kariuki is now in Form 2. He was position 4 out of 61. Elizabeth Kinuthia is now in Form 2. She is was position 9 out of 49. We are very pleased with most of the students performance. We have spoken to the teachers regarding some students whose performances have dropped in the last two terms. They have promised to work harder this year. The students and their families are very grateful for receiving full sponsorship and they normally write letters to TASK asking us to thank the sponsors. Esther Mwangi is now in 17 out 47. Lucy Nyambura is now in 18 out of 49. Elizabeth Karura is now in 33 out 48.

This year s target s t We exceeded our target last year by sponsoring 12 new students in 2014 because of the favourable exchange rate and also one of the students from 2013 dropped out making some more money available. This year TASK has sponsored 6 new students this year. We will continue with the same activities as last year: We will run a Quiz night in the autumn. We will also run the TASK Triples Charity day bowls tournament at Caterham Bowling Club. The TASK Charity Bridge play sessions will again be held just before Christmas 2015. As we are running more bridge sessions this year we aim to raise 2,500 over the year from the TASK Refreshment Student Fund. We raised 2,180 (up from 1,500 in 2013). We would welcome any other ideas for raising funds. We would also like to obtain sponsorship for at least 4 more children next year because there are so many students with potential who without sponsorship will drop out of school at the primary level. This year we would hope to raise fees for 2016 for the existing students and for at least 8 further students. Secondary school education is for 4 years and the students get the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education School on successful completion. Our aim is to get sponsorship or funding which will ensure a student is able to complete their education. Tel No: 01883 713938 Tandridge Academic Support for Kenya is a registered Charity No: 1135791
