Students in the Master of Divinity program earn 6 units in internships. This requirement varies for dual degree and Master of Theological Studies (MTS) students. Internships are congregational and clinicalbased. Today we are focusing on the clinical internships 3

New Curriculum Options for Student Internships (6 credits ): Option 1: TFE 1A & 1B, earning 2 credits TFE 2A & 2B, earning 2 credits CPC, earning 2 credits Option 2: TFE 1A & 1B, earning 2 credits TFE 2A & 2B, earning 2 credits CPE, earning 2 credits for ½ Unit of CPE Option 3: CPE, earning 4 credits for 1 Unit of CPE TFE 1A & 1B, earning 2 credits This is representative of the new curriculum options for M. CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) SUPV532 Nationally Accredited program with certified chaplains (ACPE and CPSP) Completion results in professional certification. [Qualifies intern to advance to second tier of chaplaincy training] CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) SUPV522 Sites with an on site staff chaplain. Qualifications reviewed and chaplain approved by Supervised Ministries Program created and accepted for completion of requirements at PTS. 7
To begin for CPE or CPC you must have Completed at least 20 units of Credit Completed Intro to Pastoral Care or Holistic Habits for Ministry or Foundations of Pastoral Care and Counseling Completed Spiritual Formation I or Pastor as Person or Personal Dimensions Completed Systematic Theology I or Systematic Theology and Ethics I 8
CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) One full CPE unit = 400 hrs. = 4 PTS units of credit ½ CPE unit =approx. 200 hrs. =2 PTS units of credit CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) All CPC work =160 hours minimum (120 visitation/40 instructional)= 2 units of credit 9

For CPE plan to begin your search the year prior to beginning internship. For CPC plan to begin your search at least the semester prior to beginning internship. 11
CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) ACPE information, applications, etc., available online. www.acpe.edu & www.cpsp.org CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) Student locates a site and negotiates terms of the educational experience with approved chaplain supervisor. Site directory available from SMO. New sites may be approved by Supervised Ministries. 12

CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) Contact site & discuss details of internship with chaplain. No external program tuition for this program. Complete any clinical site requirements (ex. background checks, immunizations, etc.) & ask about associated fees. 13

CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) Visit Supervised Ministries office first to obtain a CPC Syllabus, to confirm approved site and to register. Enroll in course with Advisor & Registrar. 14
CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) Begin internship as advised. All work done with chaplain supervisor at the CPE site. CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) Begin internship as advised. Required assignments must be completed for Supervised Ministries office and Chaplain/Supervisor. 15
CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) Forward evaluations to SMO. End of internship evaluation(s) determine Credit or No Credit. Forward proof of fees paid to site, if requesting reimbursement, to SMO at end of experience. Grade earned after receipt of all evaluations indicating satisfactory completion of requirements. CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) Forward evaluations and completed requirements to SMO. End of experience evaluation(s) determine Credit or No Credit Grade earned after satisfactory completion of hours, assignments, and evaluations. 16
