ACT at a Glance Test length: 2 hours and 55 minutes, unless students choose to take the optional 30 minute Writing Test in which case the total testing time increases to 3 hours, 25 minutes 5 tests (the ACT refers to sections as tests) 1 English Test 1 Math Test 1 Reading Test 1 Science Test 1 Optional Writing Test Students receive a composite score between 1 and 36. **** The ACT is a much faster test. There is less time to answer each question.
