Under the NTU-CII partnership, the Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will draw on its considerable East Asia/China expertise and experience in educating business leaders for the region to customize executive programmes for Corporate India. These executive programmes will be made available both in Singapore and different locations in India to the 6,300 member organizations of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to give these members a deeper understanding of East Asia/China matters. CII will also tailor four-week long programmes on doing business in India for NTU undergraduates to provide them with a better understanding of the dynamics of India s growth. The NTU-CII partnership is also expected to further boost internship opportunities in India for NTU undergraduates and comes on the heels of an undergraduate internship arrangement with India s Tata Group.

2 To drive its activities, NTU and CII will each field three members to form a management committee. Each party will also form a stakeholder group, with the groups holding their first meeting in the third quarter of 2007. Says Dr Su Guaning, NTU President: The emergence of India and China will be prominent in the 21 st century, and Singapore must study and engage India. NTU has taken meaningful steps to do so through collaboration with India in education, and research and development in science and technology. Today s milestone partnership with CII is another step in this direction as it forges for NTU a presence and a role in India Inc. NTU looks forward to a fruitful relationship with CII and active engagement with its 6,300 members on such activities as the transfer of NTU innovations to the Indian marketplace and other joint commercialization activities. Adds Lt Gen SS Mehta, CII Director-General: CII's engagement with Singapore dates back many years - with the opening of our office in 1994. Since then, CII is dedicated to building a steadily increasing economic partnership with Singapore and, through Singapore, with South East and East Asia, especially China. With the signing of this MoU with NTU, CII is further reiterating our commitment to further strengthen Indo-Singaporean cooperation. CII will invest more time and resources to do just that. The MOU between NTU and CII is the first such collaboration between CII and a university in Singapore. The NTU-CII partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by NTU President Dr Su Guaning and CII Director-General Lt Gen SS Mehta at 5pm (Singapore time) on 18 January 2007. The signing was witnessed by Mr George Yeo, Singapore s Foreign Minister, and Mr Kamal Nath, India s Commerce and Industry Minister, at the India-Singapore lunch during the annual CII Partnership Summit at the Hotel Taj West End in Bangalore, India. Also present from NTU was Emeritus Prof Haresh Shah, a member of NTU s Board of Trustees and Chairman of NTU s Academic Affairs Committee.
