Residency programs in Radiology and Dermatovenerology Medical Department National Research University Novosibirsk State University

Novosibirsk State University Novosibirsk State University is a young, dynamic university located in one of the most exciting places in the world, in Novosibirsk Academy Town, also known as Akademgorodok. It is a place specially designed for research, for being a part of global academic community even in its Soviet past. The university was established as a unique learning and research playground for highly concentrated science all around. NSU offers an outstanding environment for study and research and is considered one of the best universities in Russia*. While attending the university, students and young scholars have the unique opportunity of tapping the resources of the many nearby research institutions of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences to pursue innovative research while also enjoying the social and cultural life of Novosibirsk, which is the largest city of Russia between Ural Mountains and Pacific Ocean** *3d one among the best Russian universities in 2013 (QS World University Rankings) **3d one among the largest cities in Russia

Medical Department Teaching medicine at Novosibirsk State University was organized on the basis of the Division of Medical Biology of the Department of Natural Sciences. In 1995, training of specialists qualified in biomedical research was started there. Same year, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation decided to open the medical departments at three classical universities in Moscow, Petersburg, and Novosibirsk. The academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences Ludmila N.Ivanova, Dmitry G.Knorre, and Valentin V.Vlasov were among the founders of the university medical department in Novosibirsk. In 2002, Novosibirsk State University was licensed to teach general medicine, and the next year the first students were enrolled to the Division of Medicine of the Department of Natural Sciences. In 2003, the division evolved into a new university department, and professor Andrey G.Pokrovsky, M.D. became the first dean of the department.

Medical Department In 2009, the first graduation of the Medical Department of Novosibirsk State University occurred. All the graduates obtained the Medical Doctor Diploma with specialization in General Medicine, and those who decided to proceed with medical practice, were admitted as interns or resident doctors to the different hospitals of Novosibirsk city and the region. Some of the graduates entered the post-graduate education programs at the research institutes of the Siberian Branches of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and pursued the biomedical research career. Same year, the state accreditation for the teaching of general medicine was successfully obtained. The Medical Department of Novosibirsk State University is still in the process of growth. In 2010, the Center for Post-Graduate Medical Education was established at the department, and the official license to carry out the post-graduate internship and residence education in different key specialties was issued to Novosibirsk State University in 2011. (see the site http://www.medf.nsu.ru )

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR TEACHING FOREIGN STUDENTS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN INTERNSHIP AND RESIDENCY ON "RADIOLOGY" Qualification (degree) of the graduate: Radiologist Medicine Department Novosibirsk State University Laboratory "MRT TECHNOLOGIES", International Tomography Center (ITC), Siberian branch of Russian academy of sciences (SB RAS) Supervisor: Andrey Tulupov MD, PhD Associate professor, Vice dean Staff radiologist, Head of the Laboratory

The internship and residency on radiology aims at training of qualified radiologist with a good general clinical base for practice in hospitals and clinics. Education in the internship and residency based at the Department of Medicine NSU provides an employment for graduate in the health care center which has in it structure therapeutic, surgical and neurological, otorhinolaryngologic, urology, endocrinology departments, with the exception of highly specialized (and heart surgery vascular surgery, neurosurgery, etc.). Admission to the internship is preceded by an interview. The interview is conducted with Director of the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education NSU and supervisor on radiology. Internship - full-time study, 1 year, 1728 hours (48 weeks). Residency - full-time study, 2 years, 3456 hours (96 weeks). Training is carried out at the Centre for Postgraduate Medical Education NSU and radiology departments of medical institutions, which are the clinical bases of the Medical Faculty of the NSU. The interns and residents training includes not only the theoretical and practical part, regulated curriculum, but also participation in clinical, clinical-pathological conferences and scientific meetings. Interns and residents are encouraged to participate in research carried out in the department. On the whole, teaching internship is a collection of professional training matches, intellectual, labor and moral education of a physician. Physicians who successfully complete an internship on radiology, receive a certificate of a Specialist in Radiology. Center for Postgraduate Medical Education NSU provides a level of training that allows you to recommend any graduate to work independently in a general hospital.

Fundamental disciplines Cell biology. Stem cells have a unique ability: when they divide, they can either give rise to more stem cells, or to a variety of specialised cell types. In both mice and humans, a layer of cells at the base of the skin contains stem cells that can develop into the specialised cells in the layers above. At some point in their lives, the stem cells at the base of the skin stop proliferating and start differentiating into the cells that form the skin itself. To do so, they must turn off the 'stem cell programme' in their genes and turn on the 'skin cell programme'. Study of stem cells opens up new horizons in understanding the pathogenesis of diseases of the skin and extends the capabilities of therapy in dermatology and cosmetology. Molecular biology is the branch of biology that deals with the structure and function of macromolecules (for example proteins and nucleic acids functioning within skin cells, and the cells of those structures found within skin) that are essential to life. Biological realities dictate that effective skin care products or treatment can only be derived from an understanding of cellular functioning. Residents are immersed in dermatopathology training through daily sign-outs with dermatopathology staff members, specialized dermatopathology conferences, glass slide self assessment. The experience gained during this rotation provides the resident with insight into the practice of dermatopathology from the initial processing of biopsy specimens to the optimal interpretation of histologic slides and writing of pathology reports. Biochemistry. For the diagnosis of diseases of the skin are often used biochemical tests. Course biochemistry adapted to the requirements of dermatology and venereology, and includes narrow aspects of biochemical disorders in skin diseases. Genetics. Genetic predisposition is important in the diagnosis of many skin diseases, such widespread as eczema and psoriasis, as well as in developing and they have met. Course of genetics addresses the most pressing issues of hereditary diseases for dermatology.

Research activity Residents and faculty meet two times a month to review the latest clinical and basic science research articles, gain insight into ongoing research activities within the department, and/or look for answers to clinical questions. Topics include prominent medical dermatology, pediatric dermatology, dermatologic surgery, and laser/cosmetics topics, as well as relevant articles from outside dermatology. Each resident has a theme of a clinical research work and reports for its results four times a year. Several times a year, residents review interesting cases from the consultation services to their peers. Complex medical cases are presented with pathology review.

3 credits Simulation course Dermatology simulation course consists of two parts: non-invasive diagnostic methods and radiosurgery
