SMIMER: ABOUT THE INSTITUTE Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research (SMIMER) is a medical institute established by the Surat Municipal Corporation in the year 2000-2001. SMIMER is located in a campus measuring about 25 acres of land at Umarwada, Opposite Bombay Market, in the heart of the Surat city. SMIMER is affiliated to Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), Surat and is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India for 100 annual undergraduate admissions. Under 10 (A) of IMC Act, SMIMER is permitted by the Medical Council of India and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India for additional intake of 50 undergraduate admissions from the academic year 2009-10. The Medical Council of India has recommended to the Ministry Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi for the recognition of M.B.B.S degree of additional 50 undergraduate seats. This institute is also successfully running recognized Postgraduate Degree Courses in the specialty of General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Community Medicine, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesiology and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. obtained recognition of Postgraduate Diploma Courses in the specialty of Obstetrics &Gynaecology and Community Medicine from the Medical Council of India. In addition to the above courses, SMIMER is also conducting degree courses in Microbiology, Pathology, Oto-rhino-laryngology, Tuberculosis & Respiratory Medicine, Physiology, Anatomy and Forensic Medicine & Toxicology. On the recommendation of the Medical Council of India the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India has issued letter of permission for the starting of M.D courses in Radiodiagnosis, Pharmacology and Biochemistry from the academic year 2014-15.Overall there are fifty eight (58) seats in degree courses and two (2) seats in diploma courses in various departments. Efforts are also being made to increase post graduate degree seats in the existing post graduate departments and starting of new courses in some of the other specialties. SMIMER: LABORATORY SECTION SMIMER has well equipped Clinical Pathology, Clinical Microbiology and Clinical Biochemistry laboratories. Analysis of a wide range of investigations is taken up in these laboratories. Each section of the laboratory is handling more than 2 lakhs investigations per year. SCHEME OF ADMISSION Scheme of admission is governed by the rules and regulations laid down by the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat and the Surat Municipal Corporation. (M.L.T) examination result. ADMISSION GUIDELINES In these admission rules, unless there is anything repugnant in the text or context, "Admission" means admission to the M.Sc (M.L.T) Course of Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research (SMIMER), Surat on the NRI quota. "Institute" means Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research (SMIMER), Surat. "Dean" means the Dean of Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research (SMIMER), Surat. "University" means Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), Surat. TUITION FEE The tuition fee for total duration of course (i.e. 4 terms) will be Rs. 1, 20,000/- (Rupees one Page 4

lakh twenty thousand only) as per the permission of competent authorities. The above fees shall be payable in four (04) equal instalments of Rs.30, 000/- (Rupees thirty thousand only) per six months. First instalment of tuition fee shall be paid at the time of admission and thereafter every year in the month of January and July only. LABORATORY FEES Students are required to pay laboratory fee of Rs. 5000/-(Rs. five thousand only) per annum which is non-refundable and shall be paid along with the first and third instalment of tuition fee. DISCIPLINE All the students are expected to maintain strict discipline in the campus and shall adhere to the rules and regulations in relation to their overall conduct, academic performance and attendance throughout their academic tenure. Ragging is categorically banned in the institution and is a criminal offence as per the judgement of the Supreme Court of India. Any one indulging in ragging or any kind indiscipline will be punished appropriately, which may include expulsion from the institution. WORKING HOURS Working hours of the course will be from 09.00 A.M to 05.00 P.M from Monday to Friday and 09.00 A.M to 1.00 P.M on Saturday. However, students may be posted during emergency duty hours as part of their training under the supervision of senior laboratory personnel. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Name of the Course M.Sc (M.L.T) in Clinical Microbiology/ Clinical Biochemistry Eligibility for Admission B.Sc. with Microbiology/ Medical Technology Bioscience/ Biochemistry/Biotechnology or PG DMLT with B.Sc. in Microbiology/ Medical Technology Bioscience/ Biochemistry/Chemistry from this University or of any other recognized university. Note: Those who are employed shall submit application along with the No Objection Certificate (N.O.C) from the organization in which he/she is employed. Application will not be considered if the No Objection Certificate is not enclosed along with the application. MODE OF ADMISSION Admission to these courses shall be as per the rules and regulations of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. (As per the rules relating to the post graduate admissions under section 42 of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University Act. 1965) Merit list will prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the T.Y.B.Sc (final year) examination. Applicants who have passed the qualifying examination from the universities other than Veer Narmad South Gujarat University will have to appear in entrance examination. Marks obtained in the final year of degree examination and marks obtained in the common entrance examination conducted by the institution will be taken into consideration in the preparation of merit list. The applicant shall have to produce the original certificates before Admission Committee at the time of admission. The original certificates will be returned after verification, if during scrutiny or any time there after any discrepancy or tampering of facts is noticed, the admission is liable to be cancelled. The candidate shall be expelled and criminal action shall be initiated against him/her. In such cases, the fees paid will not be refunded. Incorporation of changes/modifications from time to time including additions or deletions regarding rule/regulations as well as procedure regarding admission, preferences for merit list shall be under the purview of the competent authority of the Surat Municipal Corporation/VNSGU, Surat. In case of dispute the place of Jurisdiction is Surat only. All communication in regard to the admission should be made to the Dean, SMIMER, Surat. Page 6

Do not pin or staple the photograph. 6. Every entry in the form must be completed in detail and legibly. Incomplete applications are liable to be rejected without any further communication. 7. Overwriting, striking off or erasing in the form may lead to rejection and should be avoided. 8. Any discrepancy in the statement and/or submission of incomplete forms will lead to rejection of application / cancellation of admission. 9.
