INFORMATION BROCHURE 1. Introduction The Department of Biotechnology was established in 2000 at Postgraduate Department of Zoology, DSB Campus, Nainital by the support of Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The Department is presently situated in the scenic valley of Bhimtal amidst the Shivalik and middle Himalayan ranges. The Department has separate Laboratories for Plant Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology & Bioinformatics etc. with all advance facilities to peruse teaching & research in the related areas. Department is now also sponsored by DST FIST Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi. 2. Schedule of Admission Applications are invited for admission to first Semester M.Sc. Microbiology at Department of Biotechnology, Kumaun University, Bhimtal Campus, Bhimtal. S.No. Particulars Date 1 Last Date for submission of Forms 07 July 2016 2 Commencement of session August 2016 3. How to apply a) Information brochure cum application form can be obtained from Department of Biotechnology, Kumaun University, Bhimtal Campus, Bhimtal or could be downloaded from University website www.kunainital.in. b) Application must be sent on the prescribed format along with a demand draft of Rs. 1,050/- (One thousand fifty only) Rs. 550/- (Five hundred fifty only) in case of SC/ST candidates, in favour of M.Sc. Microbiology course, Department of Biotechnology, payable at Punjab National Bank (PNB), Bhimtal so as to reach the Department on or before 07 July, 2016. Forms can be submitted with late fee of Rs. 250 till 15 th July 2016. c) Documents required to be attached along with the application form: Self- attested photocopies of certificate in support of educational qualification and category certificate. d) Application form complete in all respects should reach, The Head & Co-ordinator, Department of Biotechnology, Kumaun University, Bhimtal Campus, Bhimtal, 263136, Uttarakhand by hand/ speed post/registered post on or before 07 July, 2016 and with late fee of Rs. 250 till 15 th July 2016. The Department of Biotechnology shall not be responsible for any delay. 4. Details of Seats There shall be 40 seats. Reservation will be as per State Govt. rules. The seats may be increased or decreased at the discretion of the University without any further notification. 5. Fee Details Rs. 33,270/- approx per semester and excluding of boarding & lodging charges & caution money.
6. Eligibility Criteria For the admission to first semester of M.Sc. Microbiology course the candidate should have passed B.Sc. (ZBC Group), B.Sc. Microbiology, B.Sc. Biotechnology or BMLT with atleast 50 % marks. B.Sc. final year students can also appear. Only one year gap after B.Sc. is allowed. 7 Selection Procedure Selection will be done on merit basis, 8 Demand draft /Cash of Rs. 33,270/- + 5000/- Caution money for first semester students.(thirty eight thousand two hundred seventy only) on the day of admission in favour of Department of Biotechnology, M Sc. Microbiology course payable at Punjab National Bank (PNB), Bhimtal at the time of admission (strictly within one week of counseling). 9 General Notes The decision of University for the selection of candidates shall be final. 10 How to Reach the Department: Department of Biotechnology, Bhimtal Campus is situated in the upper banks of Mallital of the Bhimtal lake at by-pass road, June Estate, Kuwan Tal, Bhimtal. The Department is reachable both by rail & road, the nearest railway station being Kathgodam.
