In whatever role you join, you will be working on the UK s most prestigious schemes. Here is just one example of the real difference Rydon is making to the community in Ealing. Ealing spans both the inner city and the outer suburbs of the Capital, and it has developed its own unique identity built around its seven town centres. At the heart of West London between Heathrow, the world's busiest airport and central London, Ealing is undergoing a transformation and is creating strong business links regionally, nationally and internationally. As an area that is already a strong economic centre, the borough is an extremely attractive location for development, and the council and its partners are committed to providing support and encouraging continued growth and development of the right quality in the right places. There are already excellent transport links via road and rail. Soon, Ealing will have five new Crossrail stations, further strengthening the transport network and the stations themselves will create new major development opportunities in the surrounding areas. Rydon is delivering more than 300m worth of development in this Borough alone. This is just one example of the exciting work locations Rydon trainees and graduates can really make a make a difference across our project throughout London and the South of England.
CHARLEY FRASER Site Management Trainee 130m Packington Estate Regeneration Islington, London Rydon is an excellent company to work for. They have given me a genuine belief to succeed in my role and enjoy a long career in the industry, thanks to their willing and friendly approach to nurturing young talent. I am currently studying for my final year of a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction at London South Bank University, with a view to enrolling in a 3-year Construction Management-related degree when I graduate next year. As part of my personal development, I receive full financial support from Rydon to pursue a relevant, industry-recognised qualification. Rydon has given me a genuine belief to succeed in my role and enjoy a long career in the industry. I joined Rydon in 2016 following an initial week s work experience over a half term holiday. The work experience gave me a flavour of what I could expect in a site management role and an opportunity to see if working within construction was for me; still keeping my options open during my final year of sixth form. Rydon saw I had an interest in a construction career and then gave me a 1-month, fully paid trial to see if I could learn and settle into what seemed quite a demanding role on paper. Since then, I have gone from strength to strength, progressing from shadowing a Site Manager to handing over my very own section of the 130m Packington Estate regeneration. Working as a Site Management Trainee has given me a lot of confidence to mould myself as a person and build an experienced site team around me, embedding within the family working environment that Rydon is renowned for. I feel that I can learn from anyone, as their open and honest approach is one that resonates from the site team right through to the directors. I have enjoyed the Rydon trainee scheme as it has given me a variety of skills and future development opportunities. I have been able to learn on the job 4-days-a-week and study part time once a week towards my HNC qualification. This is down to the training I have received through their two-year business rotation scheme, giving me a wide spectrum of knowledge of how Rydon and the wider industry works together to deliver projects.
LAURA FIELD Trainee Quantity Surveyor 5m Ashton Court Refurbishment Camden, London Each employee makes a real contribution to the business and the wider community. Rydon is a company that is small enough to deliver variety to their trainee staff, but also still feel like each employee makes a real contribution to the business and the wider community. I have enjoyed combining education with practical learning in the office or on site. Rydon is committed to give me as much time on site to experience how a project formulates from all sides of the business. In addition to my job role, I study part time for a BSc Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management degree at the University of Westminster. I graduated from my Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction last year and expressed a desire to continue studying a specialised degree in Quantity Surveying, which has been financially supported by Rydon. This includes my tuition fees and travel expenses, in addition to a paid day s work! I spend most of the time in the office, but Rydon encourages me to visit the projects I am working on from head office, sometimes as much as 2-3 days a week. I am currently managing the budgets for the Ashton Court project in Camden, a 5m scheme to transform the living environment for the elderly by demolishing the ailing, existing flats and replacing them with modern, safe and secure homes in addition to five mews houses available for private sale. Before I joined Rydon, I had no knowledge of Quantity Surveying, but now I can competently communicate with suppliers and I am developing the art of negotiation, which is crucial to deliver the best price for the business and ensure that projects are completed within budget. My favourite part about working for Rydon is that how we work as a team to meet our objectives and drive the business forward by sharing knowledge, learning about as much of the project and wider goals. There is a close-knit environment at Rydon and an open door policy, one that ensures I can extract the most from my incredibly experienced team when training as a Quantity Surveyor.
