EDITH COWAN UNIVERSITY A new pathway to a PhD Doctor of Philosophy (Integrated) Business & Law The Doctor of Philosophy (Integrated) involves a foundation year of research preparation followed by a three year full-time (or part-time equivalent) research program which culminates in the submission and examination of a thesis. The one-year of coursework subjects include generic research training and discipline-specific units. The coursework component of the degree provides students with strategies for a successful research journey, appropriate research design and methodology, timely completion, and effective writing and communication skills. The emphasis is on student-centred learning and high quality, confident and competent scholastic achievement in research. This course will facilitate independent thought, and will require students to conceive, plan and conduct a piece of research, taking into consideration the logistical and practical aspects of conducting applied research. At the end of the first year of coursework, students who successfully complete the course requirements may qualify for a Master of Research Practice (by coursework) if they choose to leave the program, depending on their entry level qualifications. The Integrated PhD is a course that develops high quality, independent researchers, with the capacity to contribute to the international research community.
