THE OPEN UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG BBA (Hons) in Professional Accounting THE OPEN UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) is established and recognised by the Government. It has four Schools School of Arts and Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, School of Education and Languages, and School of Science and Technology offering degree programmes in a number of areas, including arts and social sciences, business administration, education and languages, science and technology. Currently, there are over 9,500 students taking programmes on a full-time basis in the University s campus. In addition, undergraduate degree programmes in a range of disciplines are offered jointly with partnership institutions. PROGRAMME OVERVIEW This two-year programme is offered by the OUHK in collaboration with SHAPE of VTC. Since the first intake in 2005, more than 1,800 students have enrolled in this programme. Students can enjoy campus facilities of both the OUHK and SHAPE, including computer laboratories, libraries and sports facilities. This programme is designed to provide theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in various aspects of accounting for students who wish to pursue their careers in accounting and business. Upon successful completion of the degree, students should be able to: explain and critically review business theories and concepts to identify issues, analyse situations, and develop solutions for multi-faceted problems in organisational settings; critically evaluate and make informed judgements in view of the organisation s strategies as well as ethical considerations; make contributions as a leader and member in a team setting and communicate effectively; analyse and apply accounting principles and standards to accounting-related issues; search, organise, assess and analyse data, and clearly convey relevant financial and non-financial information so that decision-makers can formulate informed decisions; and assimilate new knowledge in financial reporting standards, tax legislation and auditing standards and be able to provide critical analysis of the fields. EXTERNAL RECOGNITION The programme has been accredited by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) as an approved accounting degree programme. Graduates of the programme may claim exemptions for up to a maximum of nine papers (out of 14) of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) examinations. They may claim exemptions of all eight foundation examinations of CPA Australia. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Tuition fees, which are collected for each term, are charged according to the number of credits for the courses taken by the student. A student will normally take 40 credits in an academic year. The amount payable will vary depending on the courses taken by the student. The annual tuition fee for the programme given in the table below is for reference only. The OUHK adopts a lock-in system for the tuition fees of all full-time undergraduate programmes in which the tuition fees per credit for students admitted in 2018/19 will remain the same throughout the duration of their studies at the OUHK. All other students will be required to have TOEFL 575 or IELTS of 6.5 or Pearson 62. ASSESSMENT Assessments take the form of case studies and problem-based assignments, group presentations, portfolio and/or reports. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SCHEME FOR POST-SECONDARY STUDENTS (FASP) (for designated full-time locally-accredited degree programmes only) The FASP, which is administered by Student Finance Office (SFO) under the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency (WFSFAA), provides means-tested financial assistance to needy full-time students pursuing locally-accredited, self-financing post-secondary education programmes at the level of associate degree, higher diploma or degree.
