January 1, 2011 Tri-Star News Q4 Vol. 4 Issue 1 Hello Triangle Section Happy New Year! President s Message Triangle Section It seems like 2010 just flew by. The past year was full of MBCA activities and I would like to draw attention to a few in particular, just in case you missed them. We started off with a well-attended Tech Session in February, hosted by Max Scroggs at A Better Wrench in Chapel Hill. Following this event were the Pinehurst Brunch and SLR Tour in April, the Road Rally in June, the Shelton Vineyard Car Show in August, Octoberfrost, and a one-time only tour of Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Williamsburg, VA in November. We ended the year in December with our annual Holiday Lunch and Toys For Tots drive at the beautiful TPC Wakefield Country Club. (Our sincere thanks to Leith Mercedes-Benz of Raleigh for all of the door prizes and being an official collection station for the Toys For Tots.) We held joint events in August and November with members from our neighboring Sections. It was really great to get to meet new M-B enthusiast and make new friends. We are planning on continuing to invite other Sections to attend events with us in 2011. Elections were held in November and officers were re-elected without change. I would like to say a special Thank You to Tom, Marty, and Mike for all the hard work and effort they put in to making our Section one of the best in the MBCA family. I also would like to welcome Larry Murray and Johh Byrne as newly elected members of the Board of Directors. The Tri-Star News is published quarterly by the Triangle Section, Mercedes- Benz Club of America, Inc., MBCA. It is furnished to each of the Section members. Please send all materials for publication by the 1st of March, June, September, and December to terrycrawford@alumni.duke.edu. For advertising information contact any of the listed officers. Triangle Section Mercedes-Benz Club of America Section Officers President Terry Crawford terrycrawford@alumni.duke.edu P: (919) 556-9922 Vice President Tom Lewis tlewis5095@charter.net P: (919) 418-5095 Treasurer Marty Watz satin@frii.com P: (919)-556-8838 The Section was honored this year to have two members receive recognition awards. Fred Hayes was selected as Member of the Year 2010 and Marty Watz received the 2010 Regional Officer of the Year Award. They both exemplify teamwork and initiative within our Section and are very deserving of the recognition given them. Your leadership team is hard at work arranging activities for 2011. The New Year is shaping up to be as eventful as the old. We are planning the Shelton Vineyard tour and car show on August 27. Members from the Carolina Section and the Gullwing Club will again be invited to join us. Please look for a Constant Contact email with details of the upcoming events. We will continue to enhance the way we conduct the Section s activities and your comments and suggestions are always welcomed. If you have any suggestions for activities that you feel may be of interest to the Section, please contact one of the Officers or Directors. Also, if you are interested in helping with any of the events we would love to hear from you. As always, I know your time is valuable and I continue to promise business meetings will follow an agenda, start and end on time. Please consider attending. It is, after all, your club! Regards, Terry Secretary Mike Dowdy P: (919)-810-2093

Triangle Section Events (con t) January 1, 2011 Q4 Vol. 4 Issue 1 Williamsburg, VA Tour of Anheuser-Busch Brewery On the morning of November 6 th, a group of 20 members of the Triangle and Virginia Sections met in Williamsburg, VA to begin an unbeatable tour of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery. This however, was not your typical brewery tour. Ours was being led by Dan Westmoreland, head brew master at the facility. Wondering how we were able to score a tour led by the number one guy? We are fortunate to have Marty Watz, past brew master with Anheuser- Busch, as a Section member. Marty, along with wife Debbie (also a past A-B employee) made the arrangements for the tour, over-night accommodations, and dinner. I am truly sorry if you missed this fantastic event, as it is likely never to be repeated because of increased security requirements and regulations. My hat is off to Marty and Debbie for a fun weekend and great event! Marty and Debbie Watz with Triangle and Virginia Section Members in front of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery Event organizers Marty and Debbie Watz gathered everyone for a group photograph after completing the brewery tour. As can be seen in the above photograph, everyone was having a great time. Thank you Marty and Debbie for a well done event! What a way to end the tour! Left, the group enjoys some of the best Anheuser- Busch has to offer in the executive tasting room.
