4 TH EDITION Beirut Cooking Festival and Salon du Chocolat Beirut round off an exceptional Gourmet Week for Lebanon Beirut proved once again that it is a capital of taste by celebrating two fantastic food events. The Beirut Cooking Festival and Salon du Chocolat Beirut, held concurrently from 16-18 November at BIEL, brought the tastiest flavors to the city to the delight of 15,000 visitors. The public exhibitions, which spread over an area of 2,000 square meters, hosted more than 130 exhibitors and over 40 chefs and experts who shared their know-how during countless cooking workshops and demonstrations. Marking their seventh and fourth editions respectively, the Beirut Cooking Festival and Salon du Chocolat Beirut events were held under the theme Winter Wonderland, to highlight the magic of the festive season. Besides the extensive exhibition space, a number of exciting activities took place during the three-day event. At the Salon du Chocolat Beirut the chocolate Fashion Show showcased 13 dresses created by Lebanese designers who worked hand in hand with renowned pastry chefs. The Fashion Show s special guest was designer to the stars Jean Louis Sabaji, who collaborated with the Lebanese pastry chef and consultant Charles Azar. Another highlight included a chocolate sculpture by acclaimed Lebanese artist Rudy Rahme and chef Charles Azar. Made from a 350kg block of chocolate, the intricate Fire Dance sculpture was a real talking point for visitors. The success of this festival, despite the current circumstances, is a testament to the trust placed in Hospitality Services and to the spirit of our people who love such events celebrating our food culture, said Joumana Damous-Salame, managing director of Hospitality Services, the festival organizer.
Chocolate Sculpture New for 2017, the Salon du Chocolat welcomed acclaimed Lebanese artist, sculptor and poet Rudy Rahme and Chef Charles Azar at a very special event. The duo unveiled a unique chocolate sculpture titled Fire Dance. Created especially for the show, it depicted women dancing in the fire. Chocolate Sculpture Competition Rahme and Azar oversaw the Chocolate Sculpture Competition where 11 students from the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (Alba) went head-to-head in a competition to sculpt the most impressive work of art from a block of chocolate. The winner of the competition was Carlo Seropian who impressed the judges with his interpretation of the theme Musical Ear. Salon du Chocolat Junior Children got to grips with baking through a number of hands-on activities at the Salon du Chocolat Junior. Tamanna also granted the wish of a little girl to cook with chef Charles Azar during the festival. Taste & Flavors Cake Decorating Challenge Talented home cooks and foodies showcased their talent in decorating Winter Wonderland inspired cakes live at the Taste & Flavors stand. A jury of pastry professionals awarded Sawsan Habbal with the first prize.
A total of 16 of the country s top pastry chefs hosted a series of demonstrations and live workshops at the Choco Demo where visitors were able to learn how to recreate delicious pastry items.
SPERANZA Food and fashion joined forces at the chocolate Fashion Show, where Lebanese designers and renowned pastry chefs worked hand in hand to create fabulous dresses made out of chocolate. A total of 13 dresses were showcased on the runway and displayed during the event. This year s show, which took place under the theme Winter Wonderland, welcomed designer to the stars Jean Louis Sabaji and Lebanese master consultant chef Charles Azar who collaborated to create the Fashion Show s masterpiece.
