I offered students the opportunity on Tuesday morning to focus on the word peace. How do we recognize peace in our lives, how do we bring peace to others, and how do we wish the peace of Christ upon others. During Mass, we always say to others peace be with you. When we do this, we are expressing our sincere desire that God will give them the gift of peace. With your families, please continue to pray for peace in our lives, our school and church, our greater community, nation, and world. Yesterday, the second and sixth grade students did an excellent job hosting Mass. I especially appreciated how they led by lifting their voices up in song. What a gift to everyone in attendance. The Gospel reading was about the Good Samaritan. In this parable, Jesus shows us how important it is to help others, even those who we might see as our enemies. Fr. David reminded students how important it is to follow this example and help those in need. We need to remember to love our neighbor. We are fortunate for the many examples that have come before us and the opportunity we have to continue the works of the Good Samaritan and Mr. King. This year we have a unique situation with Ash Wednesday and St. Valentine s Day. January 18, 2018 St. Paul Parish School 1201 Satre Street Eugene, OR 97401 541-344- 1401 www.saintpaul- school.org Sunday, 1/21 & Thurs, 1/25 Both of these days fall on the same calendar date. However, the way in which these days are recognized and celebrated are very different. Ash Wednesday is an important holy day that marks the beginning of our Lenten journey as we look forward to Easter. It is a day in which we fast, pray and attend Mass. To help model this for our students, faculty and staff met to discuss how best to celebrate both days and recognize their unique differences. We decided it would be best to celebrate St. Valentine s Day on Tuesday, February 13, which is also Fat Tuesday. Please look for more information from your classroom teacher and room parent(s) regarding the celebration of St. Valentine s Day this year. A quick reminder that this Sunday, January 21 and next Thursday, January 25 you have an opportunity to participate in a very important workshop with PIVOT Architect. The goal is to develop the master plan for our church and school. It is important for us to involve and receive input from all of our stakeholders. In order to help us plan appropriately for participants, please click on the following link to RSVP for either Sunday, January 21 or Thursday, January 25. http://signup.com/go/uapfeyb. Thank you and I hope you are able to attend one of the workshops. The national celebration of Catholic Schools Week is just around the corner. Student Ambassadors have been working to plan a great week in which we celebrate not only our school, but Catholic education throughout our country. A highlight of this week is the annual Catholic Schools Mass at Marist Catholic High School on February 1 at 9:00 AM. This is a special Mass in which we join with O Hara and Marist to celebrate our schools, and more importantly, our faith. We are blessed this year to be joined by Archbishop Sample and Monsignor O Connor. All are invited to attend so mark this date on your calendars. Please watch for the permission form to come home with your student next Monday. In Christ s Peace, Kelli Braud
