One of the wonderful things happening in our school at the moment is the opportunity to visit our new children who are beginning with us in 2018. We look forward to welcoming our new receptions next Friday for their first transition visit. I am sure that all our learners will make them feel very welcome! It is also a very exciting time of year for our Year 5 learners as they prepare to graduate from Our Lady of Grace School community. I especially thank all parents and carers for your continued support to ensure these students have a great final term. We have been impressed with the leadership the Year 5 learners are continuing to demonstrate. A wonderful example of this was last Friday when some of our Year 5 learners represented OLOG at Westminster School for the Obento MasterChef competition. Thank you Amanda, Jo and Karla for organising this event. Last Friday I attended Director s Day and it was inspiring to hear Dr Neil McGoran (the new Director of Catholic Education South Australia) speak about a vision for Catholic Education and all our children and families. We create an educational environment which matters to students and their families and which resonates culturally and deeply for them. In each learning area, across the whole life of the school, and in partnership with families each of us discovers in the Spirit, the love of God which is revealed in Jesus Christ, proclaimed by the Church, presented in the scriptures, celebrated in the sacraments and lived by all people of good will. We have a couple of important events coming up for our community. Firstly, we d like to invite all parents/carers/grandparents to a morning tea to farewell Amanda Walker on Monday 20 th November. We would also like to invite all our wonderful volunteers to a special Mass and morning tea on Friday 1 st December. There is further information about these 2 events in this newsletter.
From the Principal cont. From the APRIM At our recent professional learning session for staff, we discussed how we can better support parents with relevant parenting information. We get a lot of great information for parents and are thinking of ways we can share this with you. We have set up a brochure stand in the uniform shop that has some great parenting information from Parenting SA. Please feel free to take the brochures for your information. Thank you for your continuing support, OLOG s New House Teams for 2018 Kelly Campbell Acting Principal From the APRIM As we head into the last 4 weeks of the school year, there are a number of key dates that will involve our whole OLOG community. One of the most significant on the school calendar is our Year 5 Graduation and End of Year Mass that will be held on Tuesday 12 th December. Look for further details on the next page. New House Teams for 2018 After collating the results of surveys sent to learners, staff and parents the following new house teams, to align with our continued commitment to enhancing our schools Catholic Identity, were decided and approved by the school board. These top 4 teams were overwhelmingly chosen and then appointed to make the alignment and transition easier. Thank you to all those who assisted with the selection and we hope to use these new names as a way of learning more about our Catholic Faith in 2018 and into the future.
From the Aprim cont. Community News Bree & Jamie This week at lunch time the students made a Kindness Tree for World Kindness Day on Tuesday 13 th November. End of Year Mass and Year 5 Graduation Dear Families, as the end of year approaches so does end of year Mass. For those new to the school, end of year mass is celebrated at Our Lady of Victories Church, 17 High Street Glenelg. Mass will begin at 7pm on Tuesday, December 12th, but children are encouraged to arrive by 6:30 and meet on St Mary s courtyard (yard behind the church) with their classes. Children will sit with their classes during mass. Children are asked to wear proper school uniform as this is a school event. Families are also encouraged to donate towards the St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal, this gives a chance for families who may not be able to financial support Christmas festivities. More information regarding the Christmas appeal to follow soon. Each of them coloured and decorated a leaf, apple or heart and wrote something kind they would say or do for someone and stuck it on the tree. This was a nice way for the kids to have fun as well as being able to recognise each other's kind choices. Uniform Shop As the end of the year is approaching we are asking for donations of school uniform items in good condition that may be offered to families as second hand uniforms. We are particularly seeking shorts in smaller sizes 6 & 8. Karla Sparapani APRIM If you are able to donate, please ensure that donated uniform items are clean and free of rips and tears. Don t forget to check the lost Thank you property box for missing uniform and other items before the end of term. All items left at the end of the year will be donated or disposed of. Thank you
