For users who are familiar with AutoCAD, SolidWorks provides a comprehensive set of 2D to 3D transition tools and employs a short learning curve aiding students in translating ideas into models and models into prototypes. Teachers and students will be able to produce 2D drawings automatically (3D to 2D), enhance their skills in 2D engineering drawing techniques by automatically constructing detailed drawings, and further their understanding of orthographic projection and dimensioning standards. Each modification made to a 2D drawing or 3D model created with SolidWorks software is reflected accurately throughout all associated views, sheets, and drawings. All drawing views, dimensions, annotations, and bills of materials (BOMs) update automatically. The SolidWorks curriculum and courseware materials include instructional resources for teaching and learning 3D design with a focus on engineering and analysis principles. Suggested lesson plans, exercises, math and science correlations, quizzes, homework assignments, and learning objectives are applicable for programs from introductory modeling to advanced design and engineering principles. While learning about the design process, students acquire valuable communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. These creative tools are combined with math, science, and engineering principles to prepare students for challenging and rewarding careers. Since each license of SolidWorks includes industry-standard COSMOS analysis tools, students can clearly visualize engineering theory under real-world conditions. They will be able to identify design areas prone to failure, comprehend the weight and cost reductions associated with trimming excess material, learn how to study assembly mechanics in detail by understanding the effects of inertia and time, intuitively and quickly build a motion model to prove that an assembly will work as expected without collisions, or simulate the flow of air over a car body or water through a pipe.
