Code for Students: Good Behaviour at all times The Gainsborough Academy Behaviour Policy seeks to encourage pupils to make positive choices. We expect that pupils will meet the expectations of this policy and that parents will support the Academy in maintaining a positive approach to behaviour. We are all members of the school community and it is expected that everyone acts with consideration and courtesy for others at all times. The following points are from our Code for Students : Attend school regularly, on time and fully equipped. Be correctly dressed. Arrive to lessons on time and with all that you need to learn. In classrooms, listen carefully and follow instructions. Put litter in bins. Reasonable requests from members of staff should be carried out without argument. No student should show disrespect or rudeness to anyone in or out of school. Rewards and Sanctions Rewards If you work well you can expect: Cause for Praise log and Praise Points calculation. Phone calls home. Words of praise. Written praise through positive postcards. Your work to be displayed around school. To be awarded certificates and cash prizes in end of term assemblies. To be given an award at the end of year Award s Assembly. Gold, Silver, Bronze Awards. Effort Ranking. All students are given an effort score and ranked against their peers. Those with a good effort rank will be rewarded. Attendance rewards. Sanctions If you misbehave, at the classroom teacher s discretion, you can expect: A warning. To be moved to a different seat. Cool off period. Sent to the sanction room. A detention (break, lunch or after school) To be sent to your Head of Year/SPM. Your parents to be contacted. To be moved classroom groups.

At the discretion of the Headteacher/Deputy Headteacher: To be excluded from lessons under supervision To be excluded from school for a period of time To be excluded from school permanently. Day to Day Issues The School Day 08:30 08:45 Registration 08.45-10.05 Period 1 10:05 11:25 Period 2 11:25 11:55 First Break 11:55 13.10 Period 3 13:10 13:45 Second Break 13:45 15:00 Period 4 Breakfast Arrangements Breakfast is available for all students between 8am to 8.30am each morning in the school canteen. Lunchtime Arrangements Hot or cold meals are available from our canteen and students are welcome to bring sandwiches if they prefer. Consuming food and drink is only allowed in the canteen and designated eating areas. All waste food and items of litter must be cleared from the tables and deposited into the bin provided. All students are expected to stay on the school premises during lunchtime where they can be properly supervised. Students are not allowed to go off site to a shop at lunchtimes. Students are not allowed off site during school hours without written permission. Snacks Food is available from the canteen at break times. Mobile Phones Mobile phones are allowed on school site but must be turned off and in the student s bag. They may be used at the discretion of the classroom teacher as a tool to enhance learning. The Gainsborough Academy does not accept any liability for lost, stolen or damaged phones, either in school or on extra-curricular activities. Litter We expect our students to take a pride in the appearance of their school. We do not allow them to drop litter and we urge parents to support the school over this matter. We make every effort to ensure that any litter that is dropped is picked up as quickly as possible so that the school always looks neat and tidy.

Chewing Gum Chewing gum is not allowed in school. Smoking Smoking is not allowed on school site. This includes the use of E-Cigarettes. School Uniform School Tie: Shirts: Trousers: Skirt: Jumpers: Shoes: Jewellery: Clip on tie for all. A white, collared, button front shirt, tucked into trousers, long or short sleeved. Black tailored trousers, worn around the waist (no combat styles, no harem style, no jeans or jean style, no tracksuit, jogging bottoms or leggings) Knee length black skirts only (no denim, mini, puffball, tiered or other fashion styles) Black V neck jumper/cardigan with school logo. Sensible black, leather shoes (no training shoes, canvas shoes or boots) This should be kept to a minimum; a single watch may be worn and only 1 pair of small stud earrings are allowed. No facial piercings are permitted in school. Physical Education Kit: Year 7-11 Students: The compulsory PE kit consists of: The Gainsborough Academy PE polo shirt with the school logo The Gainsborough Academy PE hooded top with the school logo Plain black shorts or tracksuit bottoms Plain black thick leggings (optional for girls) Black panelled Polo shirt with logo Plain white or black socks Trainers Please Note: Other items such as, studded footwear, gum shields and shin pads may be needed at certain times of the academic year. The PE teacher may feel it is necessary for the specific sport they are studying or for any extra curricula activity. Jewellery must never be worn during games or PE lessons. Hair should be tied back. Please put your son s/daughter s name onto items of PE kit

Behaviour Policy If a student misbehaves in a lesson they can expect the following action at the discretion of the classroom teacher: A warning. Moved to different seat. Cool off period. Sanction room. Detention (break, lunch or after school) Sent to HOY/SPM. Parents contacted (phone, letter, meeting) Moved classroom groups. Excluded from lesson for set time supervised by HOD/HOY/SPM. Exclusion (internal, fixed, permanent) Your Form Tutor and Head of Year will be informed of all these sanctions by a Cause for Concern email.
