COMMENTS BY THE GRAND KNIGHT Brother Knights, Our council has had another wonderful year supporting our parish and community. I am particularly pleased with our support throughout the year for our Catholic youth. We will be conducting our 13 th Golf Tournament to support Catholic School Scholarships on August 12, 2017. Brother Frank Gonzales, our project leader, needs your help with signing up teams, collecting door prizes, and assistance with the conduct of the tournament. Please see page 2. Special thanks are due to all of the brothers and ladies that participated and made this fund raiser a success. Some of the participants are pictured below. GOLF TOURNAMENT We are less than two weeks ago from our annual golf tournament. We still need players, teams, sponsors, gift cards/prizes and donations for the goodie bag. Please, if you know any golfers, see if they are willing to enter and play. If you know any businesses owners, see if they are willing to sponsor a hole or provide a prize/gift card. Lastly, please let me know if you can donate a gift card, nuts, water, granola bars, etc. for the goodie bags we are putting together. Thank you so much for your generosity and support. INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS Our annual Council family picnic and installation of council officers was held in the park next to Mt. Carmel on July 11, 2017. It was a festive event with participation by many council families as well as Fr. Juan, Fr. Nathan and District Deputy Juan Garcia. 3
CATHOLIC BOY/GIRL OF THE YEAR Thanks to Brother Frank Gonzales we have a potential worthy candidate for Catholic Boy of the Year. However, we still are seeking a girl. If you know of a college bound high school senior girl with excellent grades (honor roll preferred) and commitment to our faith and parish activities, please contact Brother Terry Davenport. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL FOOD DISTRIBUTION The July monthly St. Vincent De Paul food distribution was handled in the Parish Hall as usual and most of the regular helpers showed up to help out including Lady Charlotte, Lady Sandra, Lady Barbara, Lady Stephanie, Lady Mary, Deacon Leonard, Deacon Ralph, Brothers Terry, Bob, Don and Joe Gurule. This month we had some additional help. See following pictures. Don t forget to use your church envelopes for donations to St Vincent de Paul. Brother Frank Gonzales brought his two daughters to help with the distribution and Brother Daniel Vigil brought his son. Yes! This service can be a family affair. Please welcome our candidate for Catholic Boy of the Year, Gabriel Garcia. He is the son of life long parishioners, Angela and Mark Garcia. Gabriel is a senior at St. Pius High School. He actively participates in many of the school activities and is the point guard on the varsity basketball team. He is a worthy candidate. 5

PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND The KofC State Council is sponsoring a trip to the Holy Land October 23 to November 1, 2017 at a discounted price of $2550 per person, all airline tickets included. Fr. Cannon, the former Chancellor for the archdiocese, will lead the trip. DISTRICT ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING On July 29 th our District Deputy, Juan Garcia, and four others held an informational meeting for all of their councils. Over twenty councils were represented. Our council was represented by our Grand Knight Ken Blumenthal and Brother Todd Cummins and Brother Terry Davenport. 6
. Football Sweepstakes Overview 60 Chances to Win This is a council fundraiser. These tickets are a great addition to football pools. A $10.00 donation entitles the ticket holder to a discount membership card and entry into the football sweepstakes. The sweepstakes will run for the last 10 regular NFL games. (Oct 29th Dec 31st) There will be a new game each week for 10 weeks (Thursday through Monday night each week). Each ticket holder will have four NFL teams per week. $500.00 awarded per week in prizes based upon the combined score of the four teams printed on the ticket for that week: 1. Highest points = $200.00 2. Second highest points = $125.00 3. Third highest points = $ 75.00 4. Fourth highest points =$ 50.00 5. Fifth highest points = $25.00 6. Lowest points = $25.00 (If you have the lowest scoring teams that week, you win) Winners will be posted on the KofC web page, checks will be mailed. Lady Sandra Lowry was invited to attend the Annual Catholic Appeal Donor Appreciation Event at the Catholic Center on July 31st. This event is held each year to honor the donors who make generous donations to the Annual Catholic Appeal. This year s event included the opportunity to meet and greet many of our seminarians who are the primary beneficiaries of the annual appeal. It was encouraging to meet many impressive young men who are studying to become priests.
