The countdown to Christmas is well on its way and things are becoming slightly more Christmassy in school. If you want to see what you might win, the hampers are displayed on the tables in the entrance. The Choir at Wellcross Grange Residential Home Our choir went to sing at Wellcross Grange today with Mrs Upstone and Mrs Barber. Christmas Decoration Competition Our Christmas tree has now arrived thanks to the Potburys and it will need some decorations. Therefore, if you would like to make a decoration for the tree, it will automatically be entered into a Christmas decoration competition. No bought items allowed as it has to be home made! Entries in by Friday 8 th December. Please make sure you put your name and class on its hanging loop. Open afternoon Monday 18 th December 2.30pm We will be holding our termly open afternoon on Monday 18 th December at 2.30pm. This is an opportunity for you to come into school to see your child s learning over the last term and have a look at their books with them. Everybody is welcome. Update from our Green Dragons Switch off Fortnight is an environmental awareness campaign for schools on how to help save planet earth by reducing energy, reducing our carbon footprint and busting global warming. We have been working hard on this in school. Green Dragons have led a worship where they have used Wastebuster mascots - Buster and Pong to explain how our planet is warming up due to the excesses of greenhouse gases, and giving some great tips on how we can reduce our energy consumption to combat this. From Mrs Hamer Netball Tournament at Colliers Yesterday, our netball team took part in a tournament against two teams at Colliers. There were six teams in total and we played two matches against St Andrew s B team and Plaistow and Kirdford team A. We didn t win our matches but achieved reasonable scores of 5,3 and 9,2 respectively. Keep up the good team work everyone. By Molly and Millie Cake Raffle Thank you to Mrs Forster (Archie s mum in Reception) for making the cake this week. The winner was Alex W.

KS2 Carol Service Thursday 14 th December 6pm Don t forget it s our annual KS2 Carol service on Thurday 14 th at 6pm at St Peter s and afterwards in the school hall for coffee and mince pies (kindly donated by the PTA). Children will need to be dropped off to their classrooms at 5.30pm in school uniform ready to walk up to the church with their class teachers. Outstanding Cups If your child received an outstanding cup from the summer term please can you return it to the school office by Friday 15 th December. Many thanks. Christmas Jumper Day We will be having a Christmas Jumper day on Wednesday 6 th December along with our Christmas lunch from Easy lunch on the same day. You can wear anything christmassy and it doesn t have to be a shop bought jumper but any colourful jumper with some tinsel or a christmas badge/brooch. It s just for fun and families are not expected to spend lots of money for a new outfit! Children will still need to wear their school uniform just with a different jumper. Class Cover, our supply agency are offering a prize of a 50 amazon voucher for the best Christmas jumper this can be a teacher or child at school. Again, it can be a homemade approach or bought. We will send off the photos for judging. Staff changes for January 2018 This is to inform you that Mrs Claudia Hamer (Arun class teacher) will be leaving us at Christmas. She has made a very difficult decision to leave Slinfold in order to take a step back from full time teaching and focus on her family and other interests. We are very sad to see her leave as she has been a great member of the team here at Slinfold since 2011. We wish her all the best in everything and hope that she may come back every so often and do some supply teaching for us! We are hoping to have a teacher in place as soon as possible and will keep you informed of any appointments we make. Slinfold School Survey Index for Inclusion Closing Date Friday 8 th December In our locality of schools, we are taking part in a school development project based on the 'Index for Inclusion' document. This document is to help us develop our setting through creating inclusive cultures, policies and practices. One of the key areas on which we are focusing is our practice and how we aid learning. We want to find out about how much the children are actively involved in their own learning and to encourage them to be confident, critical thinkers. By completing this survey, we will have a simple baseline from which we can start to improve how we encourage children to be more independent and responsible for their learning. It will take you less than 2 minutes and is only 7 questions. Please follow this link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/xkgvyxw
