St. Paul s Preparatory Academy Mrs. Miles lmiles@stpaulsprep.com 2014-2015 School Year 6th Grade Mathematics Syllabus Course Overview Mathematics: Applications and Connections meets or exceeds international standards in grades 6-8. It emphasizes geometry, measurement, and proportionality, as well as algebra, fractions, and statistics. The curriculum follows a sequence that introduces, reinforces, and extends topics needed for success in algebra I and geometry. Course Objectives 1. Prepare students for success in algebra I and geometry. 2. Motivate students to realize that mathematics is related to and relevant to everyday lives. 3. Increase test scores for national and international standardized tests. Course Curriculum Glencoe Mathematics: Applications and Connections Course 1 Course Requirements Students are expected to be on time to class everyday with the appropriate needed materials (book, paper, spiral notebook, graphing paper, pencil, ruler, eraser, & protractor). Homework is to be turned in on a daily basis at the beginning of math class.

Class Rules Grading Scale Weights 1. No talking without permission. 2. Hands and feet to yourself. 3. No sleeping in class. 4. Use math class for math. A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 F 0-69 Homework 25% Quizzes 20% Tests 40% Prompt & Preparedness 15% Homework Policy All homework will be graded. All incomplete or late homework will receive a 50 the first day. The second day will be a zero with a D-hall. The assignment will still need to be completed.
