What is the First-Year Engineering Lounge? The Lounge A space for you to work on your homework and your group/team projects in the presence of Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UTAs) to help you with questions. Occasionally, special sessions will be held for specific topics: e.g. MATLAB, Inventor, SolidWorks. Who are the UTAs? Upper class students from various engineering majors that have taken the ENGE courses before and are eager to help you. Many have been in the Lounge for 2+ years and have a lot of experience mentoring/tutoring first-year students.

What the Lounge is NOT It is not a place to come obtain specific solutions to homework problems. It is not a place for supplemental instruction. Your professor/instructor is the authority for your course. The UTAs do not have the answer to every question. They will, however, guide you through your inquiry to find resources. The UTAs do not have knowledge of specific professor/instructor expectations for homework/projects. You are ultimately responsible to ensure you fulfill specific requirements for your course

Summary Schedule for Spring 2018 Lounge Hours Weeks 1-5 Special MATLAB Lecture Series: Thursdays Jan. 18, Jan. 25, Feb. 1, and Feb. 8 7:00 PM -9:00 PM @ Randolph 210 Special Series (beginning Sunday Jan. 21): SuMTW 6:30 PM 9:30 PM Randolph 210 Regular Lounge (beginning Sunday Jan. 21): SuMTW 6:30 PM 9:30 PM Randolph 212

What is the Special MATLAB Lecture Series? The Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UTAs) will be providing instruction for MATLAB foundational topics you should know/review prior to topics covered in ENGE 1216. Also if want to get a head start with ENGE 1215 or What is the Special Series? The week after foundational topics are covered on the Thursday lecture series, UTAs will be available to help with practice problems relevant to the previous week s topics. Come in any day the following Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Note: The UTAs will hand out the same practice problems each workshop day, so you don t need to come every day during the Workshop series. However, if you have your own practice problems you d like help with, you are welcome to come and the UTAs will gladly help you.

What is the regular Lounge? Come in for help with any questions about topics covered in the first-year engineering courses, regardless of any other Special sessions going on simultaneously, and UTAs will be glad to help you. This can include your every day homework questions, to specific questions about MATLAB, Inventor and/or SolidWorks. Questions: Indhira María Hasbún imhasbun@vt.edu
