Bible 4th Grade News: Dec. 11- Dec. 19 As we get closer to Christmas break, the students will be focusing on our great gift from God. We will take a memory verse quiz on Friday, 12/15 using a verse from Isaiah 9:6, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." The students will reflect upon what this verse means to them and how it makes them feel. The students are now finished with Unit 3 and will begin practicing for Speech Meet. In order for students to be ready with their selections in February, they will need to make their selections before Christmas break. Please check your email and have students' choices ready on December 15. I will provide them with further preparation over break. This will take the place of their Bible grades, so having the selection on time is very important. We will continue focusing on Christmas and the birth of Jesus. We are discussing hope, peace, joy, and love as we learn about Advent and awaiting Jesus' return. The memory verse is Isaiah 9:6, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given. And the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. The memory test will be Friday, Dec. 15. On Monday, Dec. 18, we will do an application test. PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAIL FOR INFORMATION ABOUT SPEECH MEET! I will need student selections NO LATER THAN DEC. 15 in order to ensure students have what they need to prepare over Christmas break. Check your child's folder for a form to complete and return to school with his/her selection. This will be part of their Bible grade during January and February. Thank you so much! posted in Google Classroom in case students lose the paper copy. We also will be finishing The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. To celebrate, we are watching the movie version of the story during our Christmas party on Dec. 19. If you have any concerns about the movie, please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you! There will be no assigned homework over Christmas break. There will be an optional fun reading activity that students may return for extra credit. I am challenging students to continue reading over the break! I will be sending home your child's progress towards their reading goal for the year, too! We have begun division! Students have notes for vocabulary and basic rules with division. We have worked with missing numbers and patterns. We will also be working with one digit quotients and remainders. We will continue our division with 1,2 & 3 digit quotients with remainders. We will also work with divisibility rules. Expect a quiz this week!your child must know their multiplication facts! Please work with your student on these. Moby Max is a great resource for students to practice as well. There will be a test next Friday, December 15th over chapter 4. A study guide will be sent home on Wednesday. The test will cover multiplication properties and models as well as multiplying by one-digit and two-digit mulltipliers. It will also include rounding and comparing numbers from previous chapters. I highly encourage you to be practing problems like the following with your child over the weekend: 92 x 56 and 64 x 39. I will be introducing the following types of problems on Monday: 841 x 56 and 402 x 31. I am asking your child to continue to spend 15 minutes each night during the week from now till January 1st practicing their multiplication facts on Moby Max under "fact fluency". (PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRACTICE YOUR FACTS DURING CHRISTMAS BREAK!!) They may choose to use flashcards instead if they desire. Please sign your child's agenda so that I know they have completed this assignment. It is crucial that they master these facts!! When we return from Christmas break, we will begin division.

Science Social Studies We will begin Chapter 4 and students should have Chapter 4, Lesson 1 comprehension sheet in their black folders on Friday, December 15th. The students are completing their studies on key events of the Revolutionary War, and they will likely take an assessment on Thursday, Dec. 14. This will include details of events placed in the correct order, as well as an understanding of why the war occurred. The students will use constructed timelines to order events. 4th Grade News and Reminders: For MS. GEIGER'S CLASS: Please remember to send in the gifts for the class gift exchange by Dec. 18. Our class party will be Dec. 19. Be on the lookout for a Sign Up Genius. Also, if you could send in $5 to help provide a Christmas gift for Mrs. Wade and Mr. Vnasdale, that would be much appreciated! Thank you so much for helping to make the Christmas holiday special for both of them! MRS. HOSTETLER'S CLASS: A sign-up genius will be sent out soon for anyone willing to send in some snacks/treats and craft supplies for the Christmas party. The students have a special person to give a gift to, and we would love to bless them. If you could send $2 with your student, this would be greatly appreciated!

Science 5th Grade: Dec. 11 - Dec. 19 The homework is to be written on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and turned in at the beginning of the day. SOME HAVE 3 WEEKS TO LEARN THEIR SELECTION, AND OTHERS HAVE FOUR, DEPENDING ON THE LENGTH OF THEIR SELECTION. IF THE STUDENT WANTS TO BE A PART OF THE SPEECH MEET ON MARCH 9TH, THAT IS HELD HERE AT MANSFIELD CHRISTIAN, THEY WILL BE PART OF A JUDGING HERE IN THE CLASSROOM THE FIRST PART OF FEBRUARY WHERE THEY WILL COMPETE AGAINST THEIR CLASSMATES.
