1.0 Introduction oodle is an Open Source Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It has become very popular among educators around the world as a tool for creating online dynamic web sites for their students. (http://moodle.org/). 2.0 Learning Outcomes At the end of the learning, you are able to: a) Apply basic E-Learning Skills to access the learning materials. b) To submit your assignment on the Course Management System. c) Using a simple bulletin board tool (forum & chat) to participate in exchange the online messages. 3.0 Southern University College Course Management System Southern College Course Management is adapting to MOODLE online systems, it has provide a platform that allows classroom to extend onto the web, and a common place for students to go for many courses resources. M.O.O.D.L.E means Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment. It has been evolving since 1999, supported by a global community, and has been translated into 61 different languages. The estimated sites using moodle figure in the thousands and the final users over the hundreds of thousands! Have your Lecturers set up a class for you, then, go to your Southern College Course Management : URL: succms.sc.edu.my/, and you will see the class screen. 1. You will be directed to the main screen when access to the URL (succms.sc.edu.my/), and see all courses offered by individual school. 2. From the screen, you can choose the course you want to enroll by clicking on the course name to view the resources available in it. 3. Most courses are normally protected with enrolment keys. The first time you try to enroll yourself in the particular course, it will request an enrolment key, a password that you must fill in once. 4. After clicking your course, you will be directed to the course content main page. Figure 4: CMS Learning Course Content Main Page 6
5.0 Steps to Access Course Management 5.1 Activate your user ID and password 1. Open your web browser and type the following address: *http://succms.sc.edu.my *or you can go to SC website and access course management system http://www.sc.edu.my/ > [ 学生专区 ] > [ 网上学习系统 ] Figure 5: Access to SC Course Management System 2. Key in your ID and Password to login. Figure 6: Login to the System 5.2 Editing Your User Profile Step 1: You can change the information in your profile, by clicking your name at the upper-right corner. Figure 7: Name of User 8

Figure 9: Change Password Link (Optional): To change your password, use the Change Password link. Step 3: Check that your name is spelt correctly, and fill in the correct e-mail address. Step 4: continue with your personal information like town and country. 10
You may fill in Short description of yourself, so that your students know a little bit who you are, but remember that all users of CMS can read your profile, so do not get too personal. To add a picture to your profile, click the file button. You may add a separate short description. (Like me in my back yard ) You can list your interests or hobbies here, separated by a comma (no spaces before or after the comma!). They will show on your profile and add your profile to the Tags page about the subject. Figure 10: Editing your User Profile Step 5: You can now click Update Profile button at the bottom of the page and you will see your updated profile. 11
5.3 Accessing Your Course Content From the screen, you can choose the course you want to view by clicking on the course name to view the resources available in it. 1. Click on the course that you wish to view and access. for example, we click the Department of Computer Science link Figure 11: Courses Conducted by the Lecturers 2. Normally for the first access, you have to input the enrolment key to obtain the permission to view the course. (Please get the enrolment key or access code from your lecturer.) Navigation Bar These are the links for you to access the course descriptions and resources. This is the block for you to access the latest news. As well as announcements. Figure 13: Screen Display the Course Contents 6.0 Resources Course Management System supports a range of different resource types that allow you, the learners, to view any kind of web content uploaded by your lecturer. This includes: 1) Prepared files like: a) Image Files b) PDF Files c) Windows Media Files d) Microsoft Office Files (PPT, Word, Excel etc) e) MP3 Files f) Flash Files 2) Feature pages edited directly in Moodle link: a) Text Page b) Directory c) Label 3) External web references like: a) Web Page b) Web Link 13
7.0 Download the Teaching Materials 1. Select the material you want to download and click on the link. Figure 14: Course Materials 2. Click the Save button to save the PPT file into hard disk or click Open button to open the file. Figure 15: Save to your Desktop 14
8.0 Assignments Steps to Online Submission of Assignment Step 1: Select the Add submission that you wish to submit, for example, Contempoary Literacy Figure 16: Assignment Submission Step 2: Browse the assignment file that you want to upload and then click on upload this file button to submit your assignment file. 15
Always read the assignment task carefully and observe that lecturers may give the instruction or suggestion for your assignment. The Add Submission button is available only between the opening and closing dates and times (unless the lecturer allows late submission of work). Click on the Upload a file link and it will be displayed the submission page at the right hand side. Figure 19: File Picker Page Click on the Browse button to locate the file you want to upload. Click on upload this file button to submit your assignment. 9.0 Forum You can access to the forum using the link that is located in the Activities block. Click on the link and it will direct you to the screen that contains all the discussion topics posted by your lecturer or course mate. To reply, click on the Add Submission button. If you want add a file or a picture to support your comments, click on Add button to upload. After clicking the Save Changes button, you have successfully replied to the discussion topic. Figure 22: Discussion Topics 19
