JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Clerk to the Corporation (Senior Postholder), 0.6FTE, 21.6 hours per week LOCATION: RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: SALARY: Clapham Campus Chair of the Corporation Deputy Clerk 46,470, pro-rata, per annum inclusive of LWA OUTLINE OF POST To manage all matters relating to the Governing Body and ensure that appropriate advice and support is provided. To contribute to the operational management of the College. This role is at Senior Postholder level. CONTEXT Lambeth College is a Further Education College. The College has sites in Brixton, Clapham and Vauxhall. Lambeth College is governed by a Corporation (i.e. a governing body). The Corporation has constituted committees. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This role is critical for the effective and efficient functioning of the Corporation, within the context of a continuing drive for excellence across all aspects of the activities of the College. The Clerk to the Corporation is pivotal in ensuring high quality governance of the Corporation and in providing professional, pro-active information, advice and support to the Chair, Principal and all Members of the Corporation, enabling them to fully carry out their roles and responsibilities, and achieve their ambitions for the College. Specific responsibilities of the job include: 1. Conduct of Meetings of the Corporation and its Committees ( including the grievance and disciplinary panel of the Corporation ) 1

Provide excellent administration of meetings, including, in consultation and cooperation with the Chair, the Principal, Members of the Corporation and the College Leadership Group, preparation of meeting schedules / timetables; timely preparation and distribution of notices of meetings, agendas, papers and reports; organisation of and arrangements for meetings; taking minutes and obtaining approval and circulation thereof; maintaining minutes and other records in accordance with statutory requirements and best practice; overseeing of appropriate follow up instructions and actions. 3. Procedural Matters relating to the Corporation Ensure compliance with all legal, statutory and public obligations, including the Instrument and Articles of Government, both generally and in connection with: appointments of members of the Corporation preparation of appropriate terms of reference, rules and guidance notes for all aspects of the functioning of the Corporation and Committees maintenance of registers 4. Provision of pro-active guidance and support to the Corporation, the Chair and all Members, in: facilitating communication between the Chair, the Principal, Members of the Corporation and senior staff; ensuring that the Governing Body receives appropriate information relating to the academic and financial performance of the College; provision of independent, high quality guidance on statutory, constitutional, operational, procedural and ethical issues; obtaining or making available appropriate professional advice; obtaining material published by external bodies that is relevant to the roles and responsibilities of Members, and preparation of commentaries / briefings as appropriate; provision of appropriate induction and training. 5. General Administration - to be responsible for all administrative matters relating to the Corporation and its Members, specifically including management of: the College Governors intranet page; administration and reimbursement of Members expenses; maintenance of appropriate indemnity insurance; procedures relating to availability of information to the public; maintenance of and compliance with the code of conduct of the Corporation. The above is indicative of the activities to be carried out but is not exclusive, and other duties will, from time to time, be added by the Principal and the Chair. 2
General 6. To be aware of the principles of safeguarding children and young people as they apply to the role with the College. Actively promote and implement the College s Safeguarding Policy. 7. To participate in the College s staff development and training schemes and identifying and providing training and development for staff to meet the requirements of their jobs. 8. To be responsible for the adherence of the College's Single Equality Scheme and actively promote and implement the Scheme as it applies to the role within the College. 9. To be responsible for the implementation of and compliance with the College s Health and Safety policy. 10. To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required.
