Volume 3 Week 4 Newsletter Date: 16th February 2016 St Mary s News The Educational Ministry of St Fergal s Catholic Parish Parent Information Night Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend our Information Night last night. My key message in the presentation was developing and maintaining a positive relationship between school and home. The education of our children is paramount and the most effective way of achieving this is to have a strong partnership. Please feel free to come in and see me if you would like any further information about our school vision or specific classroom information. Social Media We have begun preliminary planning for the establishment of a St Mary s Facebook page. This page would ideally be used to supplement the communication processes we already have in place with the newsletter and Skoolbag app. Further information will be forwarded to parents in the near future. Religious Education Catholic Schools Week From 6-12 March, our school will join with more than 620 Catholic schools across NSW and the ACT to celebrate the annual Catholic Schools Week (CSW). We are immensely proud of our Catholic heritage, and are committed to celebrating and showcasing the achievements of students in our school. This year s theme is I belong. You belong. We belong. The 2016 CSW theme ties with the Church s celebration of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, which recognises our Catholic faith values of forgiveness, compassion, strength, aid and love. Reflection for the first week of Lent Scripture: Psalm 27 God, Our Teacher: We learn about you from those who wrote the Bible. We learn about you when we listen to one another tell of your presence and actions in our lives. We learn about you when we look around us and see your creation. But sometimes we forget to take time to worship and praise you. Help us take time to offer our praises and prayers. Amen.

This includes the traditional fundraising but it is also about building and keeping the school community together in meetings and through functions where parents interact and seek information about the school. St Mary's School has a Parents and Friends (P&F) committee which meets once a month to plan fund-raising activities for the school. The P&F is organised to support our school in various ways and in addition, to give all parents an opportunity to get to know each other. It is essential that St Mary s Parish School has the support and co-operation of all parents if we are to attain a high standard of education for our children. It is the parents spirit of generosity and support for the children at our school that encourages us all to aim for the very best that is possible in the Catholic Education of the children in our care. All meetings and functions are advertised in the weekly newsletter, on the school's webpage and via the St Mary's Skoolbag App. Each year the P&F committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Committee consists of: 1. President (vacant) 2. Vice President (vacant) 3. Treasurer (Tess Blair) 4. Minutes and Correspondence Secretary (vacant) We look forward to meeting new parents and welcoming existing parents who wish to join our very important committee.
