ABOUT ELSA The Association The European Law Students Association, ELSA, is an international, independent, non-political and non-profit-making organisation comprised and run by and for law students and young lawyers. Founded in 1981 by law students from Austria, Hungary, Poland and West Germany, ELSA is today the world s largest independent law students association. ELSA Members x 40,000 ELSA Local Groups x 300 The ELSA Members ELSA s members are internationally minded individuals who have interest for foreign legal systems and practices. Through our activities such as seminars, conferences, law schools, moot court competitions, legal writing, legal research and the Student Trainee Exchange Programme, our members acquire a broader cultural understanding and legal expertise. ABOUT ELSA Some of our projects Student Trainee Exchange Programme (STEP) STEP is a trainee programme that enables law students and young lawyers to gain experience of the substantive and procedural law as well as the culture of another country. More information: http://elsa.org/page/traineeships/ International Focus Programme The ELSA Network is working together with ELSA International, legal institions and partners on a "hot legal topic" with the aim to build a concrete knowledge base and to organize events such as conferences and research groups. Moot Court Competitions ELSA Internaitonal and the ELSA Network organise several Moot Court Competitions each year on e.g. WTO trade law and human rights law. The ELSA website is the official communcation channel where we promote our events, projects, partners and LL.M courses. Social Media With almost 36 000 followers, the Facebook page of ELSA is one of our most important communication channels. The numbers of followers are constantly increasing and we have a great opportunity to reach our law students from all over Europe. Mailing lists ELSA owns a number of mailing lists separated by target groups (members, officers, alumni) which ensure efficient and targeted spreading of informationto our Network. Synergy Magazine Synergy is a high profile, high quality, full-colour publication, informing law students and young lawyers regularly on topics of interest to them and the Association. Synergy features articles from active ELSA officers, from our Partners and from legal professionals. The Magazine is published in 10,000 copies and distributed to all our member Groups in 42 European countries and to our partners twice a year.
