St. Teresa s High School President Position Description Background on St. Teresa s Academy St. Teresa s Academy, a Catholic college preparatory high school sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, seeks an enthusiastic, dynamic and visionary leader to serve as President of the school beginning July 1, 2019. The school s founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, a congregation of women religious founded in the United States in 1836, define their mission as bringing peace, love and service to the dear neighbor without distinction. Role of President of St. Teresa s Academy This school President position offers a rewarding opportunity for the right educational professional to lead a premier all-female college preparatory school, equipped with the most advanced tools and spaces to learn, study, exercise, and grow in faith. The President oversees the educational and spiritual direction of 600+ students and administrative activities of 100 full and part-time faculty and staff. The President serves as the leader of the school and is responsible for the enhancement of its educational mission and upholding the philosophy of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. The President oversees the financial health of the school, is entrusted to build community relationships and is charged with the overall success of the school. The President reports to the Board of Directors and is an ex officio member of the board and all its standing committees. The President represents the board in its relationship with the faculty, staff, students and patrons of the school. The President is responsible for establishing a long-term strategic plan and the school s annual goals and objectives. The President oversees the annual operating budget and the school s longterm financial planning. The following roles report directly to the President: Principal for Academic Affairs, Principal for Student Affairs, Admissions Director, Advancement Director, Finance Director, Athletic Director, Director of Campus Ministry and Marketing and Human Resources departments. President s Responsibilities As the leader of the school the President oversees the following areas and is entrusted with the following responsibilities: Catholic Religious Practices and Spiritual Leadership Ensure that the Catholic history and traditions of the school are incorporated into the daily life of the Academy, and that course curriculum, student activities and school-sponsored events embrace Catholic values. Ensure that strategic planning and decision-making at the school reflects the Academy s core values and provides the basis for a vibrant school community. Serve as the liaison between the Academy and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. 2
Educational Direction Lead and direct the school s educational programs, including curriculum development, under the auspices of Christian values and applicable laws, and in accordance with accreditation requirements. Appoint, evaluate, and oversee the work of two Principals responsible for curriculum development, student experience, parent/student relationships, and college preparedness. Coordinate and implement a program for long-range planning for the school. Develop an effective administrative team whose work reflects the Academy s educational vision and strategic long-term plan. Identify and provide educational opportunities for staff members to encourage personal and professional development. Direct the school s commitment to diversity by continuing programs that promote a culturally, economically, ethnically and racially diverse staff, faculty and student body. Approve the hiring and dismissal of faculty and staff. Financial Stewardship and Development Establish the school s financial direction, determine budget priorities and direct and protect the long-term financial interests of the Academy. Present the annual budget to the board and provide periodic budget and financial updates. Execute vendor, supplier, and employment contracts as prescribed under a board-approved operating budget. Develop and implement, with the Institutional Development Director, vibrant fundraising programs that provide for the current and future financial needs of the school. Oversee the measurement and effectiveness of the school s fundraising programs and solicitation initiatives. Seek opportunities to broaden relationships with current donors, to cultivate relationships with new donors, and to solicit grants and donations from foundations and trusts. Work with the development staff to meet fundraising objectives including endowment, annual giving, grants, individual donations, etc. 3
Marketing/Community Persona Seek opportunities to share the school s educational vision and accomplishments with faculty, staff, students, parents, alumnae, donors, and other audiences interested in the Academy. Serve as chief spokesperson for the school. Identify opportunities to promote the Academy, representing the school at student/parent/fundraising events, religious-sponsored and public forums, and community events. Engage with community leaders to partner on initiatives which promote education. Together with educational leaders and clients, identify opportunities for school growth. Ensure appropriateness of school communications, marketing and external messaging. Admissions/Operations/People Management Articulate the vision of the school and establish direction for admissions, operations and policy planning. Present to staff and teachers the Academy s strategic plan and provide periodic updates regarding progress toward the goals and objectives of the plan. Hire, promote and supervise the roles that report directly to the President. Conduct annual evaluations of the President s direct reports and provide input on indirect reports performance and corrective action as appropriate. Lead all aspects of Academy operations including capital improvements, facility and campus maintenance and personal safety. Evaluation The President s performance and compensation is reviewed annually by the Board of Directors. The evaluation will be based on the duties and responsibilities described herein. Board of Director Oversight The President is an ex officio voting member of the Board of Directors and an ex officio member of all board committees. Applicant Qualifications An active member of Roman Catholic Church with a strong understanding of Catholic teachings and the charisms of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. St Teresa s Academy is a school for young women. Priority consideration will be given to female applicants, and applicants who have worked in single sex environments. Advanced degree in Education or related fields. Previous experience in leadership at a primary, secondary or higher-level institution. The ability to communicate the mission, vision and values of the school. The ability to oversee the leadership team, business operations, and interactions with the Board of Directors, employees and community. Strong leadership skills. Proven experience in development and fundraising. Strategic planning experience, and execution capabilities. Strong financial management skills. Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
