Welcome from the Director of Post 16 We are delighted that you are considering Ashfield Post 16 as a venue in which to continue your education. Ashfield is a large and diverse Post 16 with an intake from many different secondary schools. We deliver a wide range of academic and vocational courses at Levels 1, 2 and 3 and attempt to cater for all students in the local area. The inclusive nature of Ashfield Post 16 is something that we are very proud of. In addition to a wide curriculum, there is a very strong pastoral system in place. A team of Tutors and Heads of Year will ensure that you succeed with your chosen courses and also help you to develop your personal, social and employability skills. Our aim is to develop you as a fully rounded individual, preparing you to move onto the next phase in your life, be that university, apprenticeship or employment. Life in Post 16 is unique. It forms a bridge between compulsory schooling and higher education or employment. You will be given greater freedoms than in Years 7-11 but you must also accept greater responsibility. You are expected to work with a higher degree of maturity and take a fuller responsibility for your own learning. You will have to time to study. You will be expected to act as a role model for the younger students in the school and so expectations of attitude and conduct are very high. If you are ready for the challenge, if you want to belong to a vibrant Post 16 and if you think you can positively contribute to our continued success, please read on. Expectations, Aspirations & Achievements The teachers in Post 16 are really friendly they have given me so much support and encouragement. Chloe, Year 13 has an A Level pass rate of 99% year on year. We expect our students to work hard, and in return we support and encourage them all the way, taking great pride in enabling them to achieve and go on to follow their dreams when they leave us. Our students study in our state-of-the-art Post 16 Centre which includes our millionpound resource centre, equipped with a Staff are subject specialists for academic subjects, and industry professionals for the vocational subjects, meaning that each time our students go into a lesson they have an expert teaching them. Vocational Subjects Ashfield Hospitality Academy Our Hospitality and Catering Academy comprises a state-of-the-art training kitchen and its very own bistro cafe. We deliver vocational qualifications to students who wish to pursue a career in some aspect of the hospitality industry. The Academy Café is open each day to staff and provides a varied menu of locally, home-cooked dishes. Under the expert guidance of our Head Chef, specialist staff teach to the latest industry standard. Ashfield Hair & Beauty Academy With three fully-functioning hairdressing salons and two beauty rooms, the Ashfield Hair and Beauty Academy offers students comprehensive provision, delivering industry qualifications at both pre and post-16. We have a proven track record of producing skilled hairdressers and beauticians ready to embark on their careers. Qualifications are offered up to Level 3 with a focus on the mastery of technical skills and knowledge together with competent work-based practice. Uniformed Services We firmly believe that our Uniformed Services course is the best there is. For any student considering a career in the military or public uniformed services, this course will prepare them in every way possible, from map reading to fitness improvement with dedicated physical training instructors. Wherever possible, we employ practical opportunities to develop students skills, making the course dynamic, engaging and relevant and very, very popular! The course is always over-subscribed, so early application is recommended. Ashfield Automotive Academy Within our state-of-the-art workshop, students are taught the necessary skills required for the maintenance and repair of light vehicles, learning how to work safely and effectively within this type of environment. The course is vocationally focused, providing students with hands-on experience of working with a range of vehicles, preparing them for further study in this field leading towards qualified technician status, and setting them on the path to careers in the engineering and repair industries. DNCC We work in close partnership with Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce to deliver a City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Social Media for Business. CISCO Academy CISCO IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software provides an introduction to the computer hardware and software skills needed to help meet the growing demand for entry-level ICT professionals. The curriculum covers the fundamentals of PC computer technology, networking, operating systems and security, and also provides an introduction to advanced concepts. Ashfield Construction Academy Our Construction Academy is run by our own specialist staff who offer courses at Levels 1 and 2. These provide an insight into various career options within the industry and are delivered in our purpose-built workshop and classrooms. At Post 16 stage we also offer training and industry-accredited qualifications in Bricklaying. The department engages with local businesses to provide a Ashfield Child Development Academy The Academy delivers professional qualifications in Child Care and Child Development with our specialist staff teaching both pre and post-16 students in the classroom and in the work place. Students leave fully qualified, ready to go straight into a variety of employment pathways in both private and public sector child care settings. For those who wish to pursue a vocational route into employment, the Ashfield Child Development Academy provides a valuable alternative to the traditional academic qualifications yet still enables those who wish to do so to progress further and access university. Ashfield Child Development Academy works in close co-operation with the school s on-site nursery, Ashfield Plaza Day Nursery. 10 quality learning experience. 11

Our Facilities Our students are lucky enough to enjoy some of the best facilities in the area. From our Olympic standard sports facilities to our professional tiered-seat theatre, our swimming pool to our sprung-floor dance studios, our individual music rehearsal rooms to our drama studios, our purposebuilt vocational workshops and salons to our photographic studio, not to mention our bright, modern, newly-refurbished classrooms, students are provided with the perfect environment for learning. We are proud to be able to offer the kind of vocational facilities only usually found within a college: professional hair salon and beauty therapy rooms, training kitchen within our working restaurant, motor vehicle workshop, construction units, photographic studio with dark room, and a fully working nursery. The quality of our facilities enables us to offer the most incredible opportunities to our students, whether they are studying A Levels or vocational subjects, really positioning them ahead of the game with regards to hands-on experience within a college-like environment. 12 13

Work Hard, Play Hard Whilst we expect all of our students to work exceptionally hard, it has to be said that the social life within Post 16 balances that out! Largely down to our hard-working Student Management Team, who organise everything from lunchtime quizzes to an end-of-term ball, there is every opportunity for our Post 16 students to make new friends, be socially active and pursue virtually any interest they may have. Whether taking part in the annual extravaganza that is our school show, performing in one of our many concerts, pursuing one of the vast number of sporting activities on offer, or getting involved with the school trips and social events, there really is something for everyone. In addition, we provide our Post 16 students with the opportunity to earn money whilst at school - either by taking up the responsibility of becoming a lunchtime supervisor in the lower school dining hall, or taking a lifeguarding qualification and working at our own swimming pool. All of these opportunities mean that, when our students leave us, they do so as mature, well-rounded, responsible young adults ready to take on the challenges of either university or the world of work. 14 15
