Dear Parents/Carers Caring ~ Considerate ~ Cooperative ~ Courteous ~ Conscientious Langtoft Primary School Newsletter #106 Term 2/Friday 4 November 2016 Welcome back to a new term. This term is always a busy and exciting one but one that tires everybody out! NEW UNICEF RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOL The Unicef UK Rights Respecting Schools Award recognises achievement of schools who put the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC) at the centre of their practice to improve well-being and help all children to reach their potential. The award is based on the principles of equality, dignity, respect, nondiscrimination and participation: values which are already at the heart of what we do. The School Council forms part of a steering group within school and has already begun to introduce the children to the articles of the Convention. As a school, we are working towards this award. Mrs Wells has submitted our application to be recognised as a school showing commitment to the Convention. We shall update you when we know more. NEW PARENT/TEACHER APPOINTMENTS Coming home in your child s book bag today is a request form to meet with your child s teacher/s later in the month. The deadline to return requests is Tuesday 8 November. Parents who have already met with Miss Henson in her as SENCo, the class teacher and myself in October to discuss progress do not need to request an appointment. (We already have a second appointment booked for 8 December.) UPDATE SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR Thank you for visiting our Scholastic Book Fair last term. The fair was very busy every night and sold 660 worth of fantastic books! Scholastic has given 50% of the sales to the school as commission and so 330 worth of books will be delivered to our school shortly. Thank you!

new CHILDREN IN NEED This year, we shall be supporting Children in Need on Friday 18 November. Our School Council will be writing to you shortly to let you know how you can help. new F.O.L.S. CHRISTMAS FAYRE On Friday 25 November, the F.O.L.S. are inviting children to take part in a Dress Down Day. In return for coming to school in non-uniform that day, each child is asked to donate a prize for one of the stalls at the Christmas Fayre. Donations of bottles, chocolate and new/ as new gifts will be gratefully received. Your donations will then be used as prizes on the stalls at the Christmas Fayre. This year, the Fayre will be on Friday 2 December from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. If anyone would like to help with the running of a stall, please contact a member of the F.O.L.S. Committee or leave a message with the school office. Thank you for supporting F.O.L.S. with these events. Every penny of profit comes back in to the school. New KS2 SWIMMING GALA On Wednesday 2 November Mr Dolby, Mrs Leadbeater and Mrs Adams took 23 children from KS2 to take part in the annual Swimming Gala at the Deepings Leisure Centre. The children competed in individual and relay races against other local primary schools. They faced tough competition this year but achieved great results: Individual Races: Louis Durham 1 st Freestyle, Alex Sadler 3 rd Backstroke, Thomas Ellis 2 nd Breaststroke, Samantha Thomas 3 rd Freestyle, Natalie Pecenkova 2 nd Backstroke, Emily Manders-Jones 4 th Breaststroke William Burgess 3 rd Freestyle, Daniel Phillips 3 rd Backstroke, Noah Young 4 th Breaststroke; Lauren Brawn 6 th Freestyle, Isla Jenkins 6 th Backstroke, Mollie Gordon 4 th Breaststroke.

Relays: Year 5/6 boys (Louis Durham, Alex Sadler, Thomas Ellis, Thomas Preston, Oliver Feetham and Jude Garratt) achieved 1 st place overall. Well done to all the swimmers who took part in the event. What a great set of results. Another trophy for the cabinet! UPDATE OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD Thank you for supporting the Shepherd s Purse shoe-box appeal. Parent, Mrs Knowles collected the boxes from school today. Children from across the school are pictured here with just a sample of the boxes. You can learn more about the great journey of the boxes by clicking here reminder LEARNING LOGS Your child (if in Y1 to Y6) has now completed a couple of cycles with their new Learning Log. I thought you may appreciate a reminder of the timetable of when each Log will be handed out and when it is due back in school: Date handed out Friday 4 November Friday 18 November Friday 2 December Date due back in Thursday 17 November Thursday 1 December Thursday 15 December

REMINDER CLASS ASSEMBLIES I have pleasure in sharing with you the date of your child s Class Assembly this school year. A Class Assembly is a lovely way for the children to share with you their latest learning so we hope that you will be able to attend. Each Class Assembly takes place in the school hall and starts at 9:15am (unless otherwise stated). Sadly we have to limit the number of guests per child to two. If you wish to video record your child, you must seek permission for this from the school office. Video recordings are for private home use only and should not be shared with others or uploaded onto social media sites. Caring Conscientious Considerate Cooperative Courteous Isla Jenkins Natalie Pecenkova Leo Sangiorgio William Brittain Oliver Chandler AND FINALLY LANGTOFT S GOT TALENT 2017 Mrs Leadbeater writes: Preparations are currently underway for next year s 10 th Anniversary of Langtoft s Got Talent, with ex-pupils receiving their audition letters this week. Also during this term, letters inviting present pupils will be distributed so please start preparing your acts! Please ensure your child is committed to take part in the show before they audition. Langtoft Players have donated 50 towards the cost of running the show, which is great news as we are being recognised as a positive event, promoting and encouraging children to take part in the performing arts. We still hope to run two shows on Thursday 9 and Friday 10 February 2017 to celebrate 10 years, and are therefore hoping for a record number of children to take part and be involved and to see how much our past pupils have achieved since they have left our school.
