The role of psychologists has diversified to cater for the needs of the individual as well as for communities, professions and organisations. The EduTrust certification scheme is administered by the Committee for Private Education (CPE), a part of SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). Diploma of Higher Education (Majoring in Psychological Science) Students with Year 12, GCE A Level or its equivalent but do not meet direct entry to a degree program are eligible to pursue this qualification. Students in this course will be given a tailored program within the allocated study period to acquire the necessary skills needed to progress to an undergraduate degree program or for applicants who wish to trial the Psychology undergraduate curriculum before committing to the Bachelor course. Students enrolled in this major will complete two core subjects of the Diploma of Higher Education, along with six subjects contributing to the first year of the James Cook University and the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited Bachelor of Psychological Science. The Diploma of Higher Education (Majoring in Psychological Science) will also provide an exit point for early graduates who wish to undertake advanced skills or paraprofessional work in the industry. Bachelor of Psychological Science Psychologists use scientific methods to study the human mind and assess, diagnose, prevent and treat problems. Psychologists are interested in how people think, feel and behave. They study individuals, groups, organisations and communities and apply this knowledge accordingly. Studying Psychology will give you a unique set of skills to analyse and understand human behaviour, relationships and mental health. You will study a core program in Psychology and choose additional psychology electives according to your interests and requirements. You will also study electives from non-psychology subjects. This program is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). Career Opportunities for Psychology Graduates Demand for registered psychologists continues to grow in schools, public and private hospitals, academic and applied research settings, law courts, prisons, police forces, defence forces, private practice, consulting firms the list goes on. Psychology provides excellent training in analytic thinking and scientific research methods that are relevant to a broad range of careers. These include but are not limited to employment in fields such as community services and counselling, business and market research, education, administration, and management. An increasing number of Psychology graduates work as researchers in industry and government agencies. A minimum six-year sequence of education and supervised training is required to become eligible for registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. After graduating from this three-year degree you must complete an accredited extra year of study either the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) or the Graduate Diploma of Psychology plus two years of supervised practice in the field. Clarissa Toh Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) With the passion to meet the needs of the community, and in pursuit to practice professionally as a qualified psychologist, I undertook the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) at James Cook University. This degree encourages critical and creative thinking to utilise scientific methods to solve problems. We gain experience in planning, evaluating and implementing research to advance conceptual issues in psychology, and to integrate a broad range of research findings within theoretical concepts. The degree also prepare us to work professionally within ethical guidelines. 11

Supervised Practica There is a total of 1,000 practica hours for the Masters program (students in the Doctoral program will complete an additional 500 hours), which are conducted in our on-campus Psychology Clinic and in external clinical settings. The Research Thesis The master s research thesis involves conducting a project focusing on an area of clinical psychology and writing it up as a conventional research dissertation or combination of a literature review and journal article. Master of Psychology (Clinical) & Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) Entry Requirements Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Level 8 Bachelor of Psychology Honours degree with an award level of at least Class IIA or equivalent, including a total of at least one semester of supervised project work, the results of which contributed to the honours award level. Applicants must demonstrate their interpersonal skills and suitability for Clinical Psychology in an interview. Clinical experience and knowledge of psychometrics would be an advantage. Application forms must be submitted together with certified true copies of academic transcripts, two referees reports and a résumé.
